Default I give up on fishing

Just to make myself feel good, hooked up the boat and ran over to Longview. Main lake is open. There's about 30 yards of ice from the ramp out, so I'm thinking, "yeah, I may go for it". Tested the ice and this is what I found. It's at least twice as thick as last sunday. This is getting very irritating. I'm over winter.

Yeah this is the worst winter I can remember for fishing. I'm hoping we are turning the corner now. I can deal with cold all day long, this ice though, not cool. Maybe this means we'll have a good season, with less slabs being pulled out of the lakes this winter.

Ice sucks, unless you can walk on it.

It seems when theres ice on the water the fish (at least on loz) get a bad case of lockjaw,we were flat out murdering fish on a regular but as soon as the ice started to form the bite went the other direction to non existant,in winters where ice doesn't form the bite will continue throughoutcan anyone explain to me why?

    Default Just my 2 cents

We catch fish year round on Truman and have for 30 years, but with this really long and cold weather and keeping that water temp right at freezing for such a long time the crappie have really took to lock jaw.....even here on truman hot spots are producing nothing, well maybe one caught out of 4 guys trying..... I was really ready to get after them, but think I will wait until the water temp hits 35 at least....... just my thoughts........

I'm pretty sure as the water stays at freezing that it will slow down the metabolism of the fish. They won't move that much and won't eat a whole lot. Once the ice is gone and the water warms up a bit, we should be in for some good fishing.

Once the water starts warming up, I'd be looking for the warmest water, even a couple degrees can make a difference. I have read this from several sources.

But, I'll start right next to OSS in the honey hole. With water being pumped out of there, it's usually a bit warmer, and very active.

    Can't wait.
