    Default Are Bass any good?

    To eat?

Outside of doing perch I've mainly been all saltwater, now that I'm close to lakes too I was thinking about trying some Bass fishing and heard you can eat them, are they any good?

Excellent eating if you skin them.

If you're extremely hard up for a fish fix I guess they're ok... not nearly as good as a Whiting, Pompano, Croaker, Crappie, or freshwater Catfish.

Try one or 2 and you'll see what I mean.

Not one of my first choices for table fare, but tasty enough to be dinner when other options arent available such as Crappie and Catfish fillets.

    Talking I will confess ...

... I've eaten my fair share of them, over the years. The 10-12 inch fish are much better tasting, than those of a larger size. IMHO
I've eaten them up to 6lbs, but I wouldn't bother to even clean one (of any size) nowadays. In fact, I haven't bothered to keep any Bass, for probably over 20 years. :D

I only eat smallmouth bass in the 2 to 2 1/2 lb range...I find largemoth too weedy tasting even after soaking the fillets in very salty water overnight...
