The Chief has spoken!
Thursday the surface temp at the 64 bridge was 39*- in the S curves, it was 41*. Threadfin shad will begin to die at 45*. There are millions of gulls at Jordan Lake right now. I drove through them and there were so many, it was actually eerie.
Monk came across Rt 64 yesterday on his way to the show and reported a giant flock near the bridge.
What's all this mean? Maybe .... the shad are dying, the gulls are there for a free meal and the crappie are full and following the dying schools of shad and not willing to look for other food. However, I marked tons of fish and shad in both areas.
Guess I'll have to go check it out again next week when the weather warms up.

I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could
I read on the Kerr Lake board that the same thing is happening...So instead of using live bait to catch a fish you need to use dead bait
Those live minnows are gonna start lookin real tasty when all the shad are gone.
