I use 10 and 12' and like em both. Keep things plenty clear of my TM.
I got a few hours at my mad money job and have been debating how to spend it on my boat. Here is what I am looking at:
788CI Humminbird depth finder for the bow
T-250-H Driftmaster rod holder
(2) 12FT BnM Pro Staff trolling rods
Navionics card
I will get a few more hours later in the month and will probably add some more rods. I have been waffling on the rod length on whether to go with the 12ft or 14ft but BnM is out of the 14ft rods.

Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I started out using 12 footers but now all I use is 10 footer...for some reason they are just easier for me to handle. Everybody has their own idea...you just have to try different lengths and see what you like best.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

If you get it send me a PM and I can tell you a few things that will help.

Thanks to lurking around on the board for a while and a lot of the long timers recommending J&H Products, that is where I am looking to order the depth finder and Navionics chip. Their prices are a lot better than BPS. :D
Still waffling on the rod length though?
I will probably spider rig and have had some thoughts on pulling crankbaits.
Don't really like chucking and winding all day when I go to the lake.
Next spring and even this fall try some long line trolling. Long rods here will help too, keeping you line away from the big motor prop. I mostly use 10' for that.
As far as pushing a crank bait or jig, I have B&M, WM and others 10'-12' and none of them would allow me to use a heavy sinker (2oz.) so I got one from a member here on CDC (The Lip RIPPERS) and it is a 10' 6" long rated for up to 2 oz. so I am happy with it. Maybe you can talk with him for what you need, his are well made and good quality. Can't wait to use it late spring when I want to fish a 1/32 oz. Roadrunner in 12' or more water. Then I can set the depth (with the 2 oz. sinker) and I will run it at and push it in front of the boat.
Should have mentioned that this is done with at least a 10' pole. Lots use a longer one than that.

I know J&H has good prices but Cabelas puts those navionics chips on sale usually late NOV. & DEC. some go for $49.00 & others $98.00 --just something you may want to check on.oldwhiskers--Thanks to lurking around on the board for a while and a lot of the long timers recommending J&H Products, that is where I am looking to order the depth finder and Navionics chip.
