use a weedless prop instead
Good morning Fellers::
I love to jig lilly pads.Problem is I make so much noise getting thru them ,I scare away a lot of the fish. I know there are several weed guards on the market for trolling motors. Do any of you use them and do they work ? Thanks for any info.
Ketch a bunch...

use a weedless prop instead
DO-GOODER EXTRADINAR :p
I don't fish around any pads much, but one watershed (flood control)
lake I used to go to was full of 'em. Gave me fits with my 2 bladed
M-guide "power prop" - switched to a 3 bladed "machete", and it was
much better, good enough to deal with without any other help.
Maybe just me, but it seemed like it shed the pads better, less tangles
running with the motor on high, as opposed to easing around - not ideal
for the question you asked, but seemed to be the case with me. I wonder
if you got in close to the area you were gonna fish, if you could use a
push-pole like the duck hunters do?

Push pole is best . but a transom mounted TM with a weedless machete will work. MinnKota makes a good prop. Transom will put your noise further from the fish.
fish pads a lot in fl. in winter
if you don,t want to use a push pole --some mount a trolling motor the transom--- it helps to use a longer jig pole [I use a 14 ft]
some times you can use the wind to drift you thru the pads

To be honest, pushpoles never even entered my mind. Most of the pads I fish, the water is shallow enough to use one. Thanks for joggin my brain!!
