    Default A few beginner questions

Hi guys, new to the forum and really new to the sport of fishing. I bought some Marabou jigs in 1/32 and 1/16 variety. And have a few questions:

    1) Perhaps this is a silly question but do people put trailers on those like they do on other jigs (bitsy bugs) for larger fish such as bass?

    2) When you do use a trailer on a jig, do you take the trailer off the jig between fishing trips or is it safe to leave it on?

    3) As far as I understand (I have no boat so I fish from the shore of a lake) I want to cast the jig, let it sink, bounce it a few times and reel it in. Doing some searching here I believe I read that some people are using jigs with bobbers attached. In that case do I just fish it like I would worm with a bobber/sinker setup?

Thanks, trying to soak in as much as I can :D

I use a bobber with jigs all the time what i do is put a sinker 12" above jig or you can put it right under the bobber to give it weight for casting and I cast it out wait for the jig to fall and then i either do a slow retrieve or just crank a couple and wait crank and wait.seems to work best for me from shore.

Welcome from Idaho. Marabou jigs okay. I prefer tube jigs myself tiped with crappie niblets. I think I would try using a slip bpbber setup, being that you fish from shore most of the time. That way you can start out shallow and go deeper. If you start getting hung up you have gone to deep. If theres crappie there you'll hang into them at a certain depth. Yellow marabou has been a good color and also all white has been good. Remember just this one thing a crappie likes a moving target. A slow retrieve will catch more fish. Good luck. Post us and let us know how you did. Jiggin joe is right, stop and go works also.

    1) Yes...trailers can be minnow, nibbles, pork rind, nightcrawler, or plastic trailer
    2) If the trailer is plastic, ok to leave on, otherwise no
    3) The previously mentioned slip bobber method is great. If just casting without bobber you should count down your jig. If you catch a fish, repeat that count on the next cast. This will put your jig at approximately the same depth as when you caught the fish.
