Great post!! Might give that a try one night!!!
"If you chum, they will come".
Not legal in all states, so check your regulations before you start doing it.
Chumming is an art form, even a science. One thing is sure, effective
chumming techniques produce more fish.
Chumming is used when saltwater fishing, and it works for freshwater
water fishing. Chum while fishing for crappie at night with submerged night lights.
Here are some neat ideas:
Get yourself a meat grinder from garage sale or flea markets. Use carp,
small bluegill, minnows or some kind of meat, let your ideas flow. Grind
your ingredients up and put it in mesh bag.
Get your lights hooked and lower your chum bag and fish with your favorite lure.
Here is another Idea:
Freeze fish scales in ice cube trays.
Throw frozen ice cubes every so often into the water. Here is what will be
accomplished: The ice cubes will melt slowly thereby releasing the fish scales.
The fish scales do two things as they are exposed to the night light:
1.) They will sparkle and glisten as they flutter downwards attracting your game fish.
2.) In addition, the scales will release oily smell, which the game fish is
attracted to thereby giving you a double whammy.

If I have enough, I throw out any dead minnies in the area that I'm fishing. Has worked out on a few nights. Just gotta make sure you pop their air bladders before ya toss em or they just float away. A good squeze on a handful of them does the trick.
The fish scales in ice thangy is a good idea. Who woulda thunk it???

Do you ever get your ice trays mixed up or do you label them??
Everyone has a secret talent they didn't know about until tequila.
I like the scales in the ice cubes idea. Will definitely give it a try. Sounds as good as the minnows in a jar technique. Interesting. Thanks for sharing another great idea.

I just read an article this weekend on something similar. Keith Sutton wrote that he had an uncle who caught a world of big crappie. After taking a blood oath that Keith wouldn't tell anyone about his uncle's secret as long as his uncle was living, Keith finally learned the trick. His uncle would scale the first crappie he caught over a coffee can and would add a little water to keep the scales moist. He would then throw in some scales over each bush he was fishing. Keith said it worked like a charm.
I have heard and read of people chumming for crappie many times. Its one of those things I have always said "I'll have to try that" and never have. Sounds like some really good ideas, The more I hear about it, its sounds like it could greatly increase the number of fish caught on an outing.
