That little catfish does look like a black curly tail.
I got my Shimano Soare bb500spg this morning, spooled it up with some 2# Floroclear and attached it to an older model black 5’ St Croix Triumph ULM .
After dropping my wife off for her PT , I drove to the local reservoir docks and tossed a 1” black curly tail for forty five minutes.
The water is dropping daily , making the normally productive side of the docks a little shallow to hold many gills.
But I managed to catch three gills and a tiny crappie .
The Soare BB and 5’ Triumph made a great little gill catcher . With a 4.6mm tungsten bead jig I was making some long casts .
The highlight of the trip was I noticed a tiny catfish swimming along the bank . He was about 1 1/2” long . Hope he makes it .
Kinda reminded me of the 1” black curly tail I was using .

Super clear by the bank! Thanks for sharing

A good trip with your little friends. I think that’s the smallest catfish I’ve ever seen. Enjoy the new reel. Victor sells the bearings for the handle if you need em, made mine much better.

That was a small cat. Probably big cats never give them a chance to grow up!
