Default What do you like, and why?

I know there are some somewhat understood rules of rod type choices for styles of fishing but, I have noticed that I tend to go against those teachings lol.

What do you like? Do you like a fast action (stiff rod) for jigs and bottom type presentations? What do you like for float (slip or fixed) presentations? When do you prefer a stiffer rod to a more limber rod? How stiff is too stiff and how limber is too limber? Does the logic change at all if you (like me) still dabble in the dark arts of live bait?

I know these are a lot of questions but to be honest, in my area we are on a streak of crap weather and non-stop rain that is causing horrible water conditions, so I can't go fishing right now and I'm bored.

I like slip float presentations of both jigs and minners. I link a medium action short rod bank fishing or casting at the bank from a boat. When jigging from a distance I like a longer 12 foot rod with a sensitive tip and backbone if I get hung up. Key for me with arthritic hands and shoulders is the balance between rod and reel.

Rods for me depend on what I am doing. Floats depend as well. For swimming a jig I want a weighted float. For Live bait I want a pen up float to which I will vary the weight to get it where I want it. For live bait I want a softer rod. Just seems to cast them farther without damaging the bait

My favorites are my shorter rods , 5’6” or shorter. Especially bank casting jigs . They seem to me to be more sensitive.
Longer rods for float fishing jigs .
Haven’t used any kind of bait in 30+years . Closest thing to bait was I tried was Gulp minnows. And I thought those were too messy .
I need to float fish more . Love watching that float disappear and a relaxing way to fish .

Most of my rods are 6’ or less though I do have some 6’6” that don’t get much play. Medium fast or fast action for me.
