Here is what I have found out about this subject. It can be the rod or the reel causing it. I have used braid on those rods and I have not had issues. Now the braid I was using was the Infinity PE X8 in a 0.2 gou. Everything was going great...the reel I was using on the Major Craft stream rods was rated for 0.3 gou or below. The rod I think was rated up to an 0.8 gou. Then I started using some braid with a 0.6 gou on another setup that I thought could handle it. Boy was I wrong. Neither the reel or the rod was rated for that line. Had same issue you are talking about. As a matter of fact was out in shop yesterday taking braid off of two reels that were not rated for the braid I had on them. Am getting my braid outfits setup to toss the D2 jig for trout. Last July when fishing upon the White with my nephew I had 2 outfits in the boat with me. One was a complete mismatch for both rod and reel. After a few casts I had a mess. Now I am down to one rod and I had larger braid on the reel than it was rated for. So the lesson I learned is those ratings do mean something. In reality I knew that but just kind of blew it off and told myself it will be OK.

I thought it was strange that some outfits seemed to handle the braid just fine , where others would exhibit the line slap .
I’m kinda weird in I’ve got to have my rods set up similar, actually identical to where which ever one I grab , I know what to expect.
Guess I’ll just have to see which ones will work . And maybe I can stand to have a couple set up with braid for situations I feel I need it .
I do like how Floroclear cast over anything I’ve used . It’s just been rare occasions where I’ve lost a fish with it .
Mostly it’s when trying to land a large fish without a net .

I made two trips to lake Kedron this morning.
First trip was a little over an hour and a half and I took two rods .
A 4’10” Major Craft Finetail glass , paired with a Shimano Soare BB500spg , spooled with 2# P-line Floroclear.
A 5’4” Major Craft Finetail Mountain Stream rod , paired with a Shimano Soare XR500spg , spooled with 2# green mist P-line CXX .
Both had a .5g tungsten jighead with a black 1” curly tail .
First thing I noticed was I was able to cast farther and without any issues with the 2# P-line .
My accuracy was better , even though it was pretty windy , 10mph , with gusts to 20 . The line wasn’t affected as much by the wind as the braid .
It also seemed like the jig was getting deeper . A couple time I hooked pinestraw off the bottom.
I did lose some sensitivity but was still able to detect bites , even with the windy conditions.
I caught 17 small gills .
The docks at Lake Kedron where I fish .

I dropped my wife off at PT and headed back to Lake Kedron at noon for forty five minutes of casting my 5’ St Croix Avid ULM paired with a Shimano Soare BB500spg with a Nasci 500 spool and handle . It was spooled with 2# Floroclear, and casting the same .5g Tungsten jig and curlytail .
Down on the far end of the dock there’s a downed tree angling away from shore .
When using braid , I was always 5-6’ short with my casts .
With the Floroclear I had to be careful not to cast into the tree .
I was rewarded with a couple of nice bluegills I wouldn’t have caught on the braid .
In the 45 minutes I caught eight gills and a small bass .

In summary. I think I’m going back to 2# Floroclear as my go to line .
The advantage of using the stronger braid just isn’t enough to keep me using it .

Wow, those are some impressive docks. I’ve never fished with fluorocarbon and keep wanting to try it. I don’t care for braid. Thanks for sharing.

P-line Floroclear isn’t true Flurocarbon , it’s a copolymer coated with fluorocarbon.
