I received my new Major Craft Finetail X Mountain Stream 54UL rod late yesterday.
The package , this time , looked even worse than before .
Major. Raft must make durable rods , as both of mine survived the shipping nightmares.
I paired it up with an old Shimano Symetre 500 because I thought the green would match the green color on the lower section of the rod . Line was Daiwa J braid .
I got a chance to slim it this morning while mine had PT .
I had forty five minutes and manage to catch six gills on a black 1” Mister twister curly tail and .5g Tungsten jig .
The rod cast the light jig lije a dream and with the braid I felt every tap and every swish of the little gills tail as it put up a fight .
A pack of large green wolves patrolled the docks this morning and I think they kept the gills afraid to bite . Normally I’ve been catch double digits on my forty five minute trips .
In a couple of places , I actually could have used a shorter rod with overhanging limbs over one end of the dock . The shaded end .
I would have preferred a larger stripping guide , but unlike the Daiwa Aging rod , I didn’t have any issues casting the braid .
Maybe the location of the small stripper guide could be causing the issue. The guide on the Aging is lower on the rod .
Fun short trip .
