Default Evergreen Poseidon salty sensation superior vs neos

Does anyone know what the difference between salty sensation neo and superior line is? I see the weight difference and line / lure rating difference when comparing the same length model, so is it just guide differences or are the blanks different as well?

I’d like a superior rod but most are out of stock while the neos are readily in stock. And I don’t particularly mind a 9g difference in the model I’m looking at.

The blank is different. The Neos will not measure up to the Superior in sensitivity. But......it will be almost as sensitive and is made for the intermediate to the beginning light game fisherman. What that means it will not break as easy. The Neos is a mix of 24-30 ton graphite while the Superior is a T1100G and Toray Nano Alloy blank with a large graphite content...a mixture of 30-40 ton depending on rod. While I do not own either, I would gladly like to own either. If you can find a Superior...and can afford one...that is what I would get. These newer high tech blanks are simply unlike the less expensive blanks.

Thanks Randy. I have a preorder for the superior through jdmtackleheaven. But have received a little bit disheartening news from fishingshop.kiwi when inquiring about their ETA through their superior preorder. Apparently evergreen does not want jdm shops selling abroad? I asked if it was just them specifically or all shops and they said believe it is true for not just them

Not good, indeed. I want another Limber Tip for a spare.

Most Japanese shops won’t say a estimate restock time frame, but a shop in Europe says January 2025 for the next production run. Does that sound about right?

One thing I have never figured out, nor do I think anyone has figured out, is the production runs.

I have an Evergreen Poseidon Salty Sensation Superior, The Scout Master SPRS 70L-T, which I bought online a few years ago from a dealer in Switzerland. Had to get a Swiss ID number, and paid a premium for it. It was a real hassle. Took forever to get here.

But I love the rod. It is the lightest, less than 2 oz., and most sensitive 7 ft. rod rod I have ever owned. I find the handle and grip to be very comfortable. (I wear a medium-large size golf glove.) The rod is rated for lures up to 10 gram lures, which it handles well. Does okay with the lighter lures also. (I only use high vis mono line.) While it is rated for 1-3 lb. line, IMO it is totally unsuitable for anything under 2 lb., being a little stiff for the lighter line. It does fine with 3, and very well with 4 lb. test IGFA class mono line really well, with no strain. Since mono stretches, the rod gets some relief when a fish surges.

The only thing I do not like about it is the very small size of the bottom guide, slightly less than 1 cm in diameter. But it does perform well with 1000 or 500 size reels. I have used 4 lb. test line a 2000 size reel with ok performance, but without long distance casting possibilities with 2 gram lures. It will still cast heavier lures a good distance with 4 lb. line. Good luck in finding one.
