In fact, I’ve gone all in on the Lunakias. I have 4 of them - 58, 63, 610, and 75.

Are there any differences in the actions across the 4 models you have besides the length?

Y’all are beatin me up here. The Presso I have coming would look extra good on a Lunakia. Longer than 6’6” doesn’t get much play where I fish, tight quarters usually. I’m thinking between 5’8” and 6’3” would suit the way I fish. Are the rods y’all are talking about light or ultralight or how are they listed? My Phenix ul had a very soft tip and I’m thinking a bit more than that one. Nothing is happening today but the education and thanks for that which you’ve already given in these posts.

The 63 is rated Light Medium Light. But that is a light game rod rating. The Japanese are very detailed in all things fishing. For instance a bass UL rated rod is not same as an area trout UL rated rod. The 63 Lunakia would be considered an UL rod by any US fisherman that picks it up. But I wouldn’t call the 63 soft. I know it is a hoot to fish with. I have a TenRyu native trout rod rated Light Light, but again most US anglers would call it an UL rated rod. When Forest asked me to show case their spoons they sent along specific details of what each spoon model is for…how it is to be fished…what rod to use….what line to use….even what reels to use. Found out I was not fishing the spoons for trout the way they recommend. It’s been about 14 years since I ventured down the JDM route. I am still amazed at their attention to detail. Matter of fact put in an order for 100 bucks worth of jig heads last night….LOL. So my journey continues.

    Regards

The Lunakia I have is 610 with tubular tip and it is not as soft as Phenix Mirage. If I recall correctly, that is the blank you built on. Not sure how the shorter solid tip models would compare, but I would hazard a guess and say they would be faster than Mirage. I need to make a post on the rod building page about the effects of swapping the guides on my Phenix Mirage build to titanium. Slashed the total guide weight to less than half and the rod is way… way better than what it used to be.

Might look something like this. Played with my 5'8" for about 30 minutes today. Caught a couple small sunfish and this yellow perch.Name: 20240418_152811.jpg
