How does EMS work?

This is my first rod from Digitaka. They shipped it EMS, and I've never heard of them. The last update was that it was released from Import Customs at JFK on the 18th. Is this normal? Do they hand it over to USPS? what happens next?

EMS is Express Mail Service out of Japan. Up until Covid that is how they shipped 95 percent of the time...for a 2 peace rod. EMS does not handle 1 piece rods. Yes all you asked is normal. They do hand it off to USPS and usually you or someone will have to sign for it. Ive received thousands of dollars worth of gear shipped via EMS with no problems. If you ever receive anything that is damaged do not sign for it. But I have never received any item damaged and I been doing this since around 2011.
