    Default Legalis LT 1000

After watching several of I fish's YT videos pumping this particular JDM reel, I'm thinking about purchasing two of them for myself and for family when they come to fish in May.

I know my cousins would love them but I'm thinking I might, too. I do have a handful of much nicer JDM reels but the quality/bang for my buck aspect of this offering has me itching to buy one!! Thoughts??

Would I be disappointed since I'm used to the Luvias and Zenon??

Is there something on the reel that identifies it as a jdm reel. I bought a legalis not from japan and was just wondering how to tell the difference .

Nothing wrong with the Legalis. But....you own some higher end reels. I tried to step down in reels about 5 years back to save money. I bought a Daiwa Iprimi. Fished with it one time and gave it to my son. My point is it is easy to move up but hard to move down once you've had a higher end product in your hand. My nephew bought a Zenon after I got mine and fished with it. He then went out and bought 5 more and relegated his 5 brand new Vanford's he had just purchased as guest reels. I too try to look at all reels and see if there is something out there for less money that is as good what I have. But lets face it no way a Legalis can compare to a Zenon...Luvias.....and so on. Victor may own one but he fishes with the Presso Limited...Vanquish. He trys to showcase low and medium end UL gear on his channel along with the high end stuff. Bigger audience and more views. I guess I'm hard headed. I could get a lot more views if I did reviews of lower end gear but I know I'm not going to fish with it so no need to buy it.

I bought a legalis for my dad as a trout reel. He has an older exist and he loves it for what it is. Seemed decently smooth to me but you should have seen the pflueger he had on there. They aren’t bad reels but his was in rough shape. Overall it isn’t a terrible reel but like Randy said it’s hard to go back once you have used a much superior reel.

Thank you guys for your input!! With the rise in cost of literally everything in our world, I was looking for a good bang for your buck type deal. This reel seemed to fit that bill, IMO.

I'll probably hold off on buying anything at this juncture. Although I could certainly see myself buying a 1000 Presso!! That's a conversation for a different thread, though.

My two cents . And I hope I don’t offend anyone.
I own several UL reels including a Daiwa Presso 1000 , a couple Shimano Soare XR500spg’s, a Shimano Soare xr2000sspg, and a couple Soare BB’s in 500 and 2000 sizes , with the Presso being my most “high end “ reel .
Others include several Legalis 1000’s ( all three most recent models) and Fuego 1000’s , Nasci 500’s , and Sahara 500’s .
If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Soare XR500’s .
I like a 500 reels for my UL fishing .
But the Soare 500 is not going to be the best reel for all methods UL fishing .
Just like Victor on I_Fish , I like the Legalis especially for float fishing , but the newer ones are smooth enough to twitch fish with .
The most expensive Daiwa Presso is an ok reel but my expectations weren’t met after reading how great they were .
Just like with almost every reel I purchased over the past five years it benefited from a couple of drops of Lucas reel oil on the main shaft bearing just below the spool .
They are over priced and over hyped IMO .
A lot of features of the high ends reels trickle down to the mid level reels .
I’m not sure I need more than 5 or 6 ball bearings in a reel as long as they’re in the right places .
. If I like the reel , it doesn’t matter what it cost or how many bearings are in it .

The ones out of Japan will come with a shallow spool. Other than that they are the same reel and made in same factory.

Let me first say I am by no means an expect on JDM equipment . With the exception of my Presso and Soare purchases most of my experience is with entry level and just above JDM equipment.
I consider myself the “ poor man’s” JDM enthusiast.

I’m not sure about all of the models of 23 Legalis models made for the Japanese Market , but with the 2000sp I have , in addition to having a shallows spool , the handle screws into the main drive making a tighter fit .
And the handle knob is put on with a removable screw, so the bushings can be replaced with bearings .
The previous blue and the gold/black models handle knobs were put on with rivet or brad and had a shaft that went through the main drive . Which allowed a lot of play in the handle .
I caught a lot fish before my curiosity got the best of me and I got my toes wet in the JDM market .
I mainly started buying reels made for the JDM market for the shallow spools . Then I discovered the lower gear ratios offered in some models , which enhances the ease to wind the reel . Lower inertia reels make it easier to feel light strikes .
    The 2000sp is a low gear ratio reel , 4.8/1 .
Is it in the same class as the Presso and Soare reels I own , definitely not . But they are getting closer and I enjoy fishing with it just as much .
I’ve ordered shallow spools and swapped them out on my older model Legalis 1000’s and enjoy fishing with them also .
I was going to put them on my Fuego 1000 but I would have to remove a bearing under the spool to do so and didn’t want to give up that bearing that aided in an easier turning spool under drag .
