    Default New Zephyr 1000 SFS

For those of us who like bargain ultralight spinning reels , KastKing has upgraded their SFS , (Spin Finesse System) 1000 reel .
I saw it on Amazon and they were having holiday pricing, so I ordered one .
I like the original SFS 1000 reel . It was one of the top casting reels in my distance casting experiment.
    The new reel is a little smaller , about a 750 size reel, IMO . And lighter , 5.3oz , 150.25g .
Nice sounding, smooth carbon drag and a 5.2/1 cranking ratio . Which is a decent compromise speed . Because of the gear ratio , I’m already liking this reel better than the Kestrel , that has a 6.2/1 ratio . Even though it’s 20g lighter . I don’t care for high speed reels .
Shallow spool , but seems deep enough to hold about 125–150 yards of 2# line .
Neat looking little reel with 7+1 stainless steel shielded ball bearings.
One of the features they changed, was they went to a screw in handle. .
The reel was smooth out of the box , but feels even smoother after adding a few drops of Lucas reel oil on the main shaft and the side bearings .
True review once I get it properly slimed.
With the weather outlook, I’m not sure when that’ll be .

At the time of this post they were 20% off . They had an additional 10% three days ago .

Another good one to consider. I’m looking forward to the review and you’re looking forward to the fishing time to test it. I hope it meets your expectations.

Do you know when the new version came out? I will have to check mine out and see what I have. It wasn't very long ago that I got it.

If the handle screws into the reel instead of having a shaft running through with a screw cap , it’s the new version.
