Awesome! That's bringing old reels back to life. Good job.
I have a couple old Shimano Stradic 1000’s , a FL that came with two spools , and a white FJ , which I believe was the first year for X-Ship .
I believe these were made in Japan . I’ll need to research that .
They’re a little heavy compared to todays 1000 size reels at 7.5oz , but are still smooth as butter .
The only issue I had with them was the excess play in the handle knob .
I’ve got a Shimano Ultegra c2000s that stick in the low spool position when retrieving.
Ive given up on it and have always looked for a way to use the parts off it to improve other reels.
This morning I tried the screw in handle on my FJ and when I turned the handle , it put a smile on my face .
I opened up the knob and was able to swap out the bushings for a couple of ball bearings.
I’ve always loved this reel and now it’ll be getting used again.
I searched around for a replacement for the FL and tried the handle off one of my Sahara 500’s . And it fit ! I’d already tuned the handle knob , so now I’ve got the FL ready to fish .
Got to looking around and stole the spools off a couple Sahara FD’s .
That means , with the extra spool of the FL Stradic , I have three spare spools I can spool up with different line and take with me for different fishing methods .
New life for old tackle !

More information on my Stradics .
First , let me say these two Stradics and a Daiwa “Team Daiwa” Fuego 1000 were my first , what I considered to be , high end reels .
So, to revive them is special to me .
A correction , both Stradics were manufactured in Malaysia.
The Daiwa was made in Thailand.
Oh well .
I searched to find a replacement handle for the Sahara 500 that I stole its handle .
If I could locate one in stock , it would be cheaper to buy a new whole Shimano Sahara FJ for parts than it would be to just buy a handle .
I would gain an extra spool that way too .
So I’ll probably just use one of the Saharas I already own as a parts reel .
BTW , it maybe partly cloudy and mid 60’s today , and I was supposed to meet up with my fishing buddy today , but we’re both sort of under the weather today .
I woke up with a cough and head cold .
So, I’m making the best of it . And staying away from others .

Good deal. The Stradic was my first endeavor into higher priced reels. It served me well. Of course Shimano had a lot to do with that. I would faithfully send it in for service no more than a year and sometimes twice a year. More often than not they would send me a brand new Stradic in the box back. Nothing was really ever wrong with the reels I sent in. I just wanted them cleaned. And at the time it was a 25 dollar fee for service.
