The thread in handle should eliminate most of the play , I hope .
When you’re a jig twitcher you like a reel without a lot of play in the handle .
    Gillchaser,

Have you had a chance to check out the amount of play in the handle? Debating on ordering a couple if they don't have the play in the handle when twitching.

    I have .
The new 2023 Daiwa Legalis LT 2000s-p is much better than the older models of Legalis LT’s .
The best part is the shallow spool versions from Japan have a handle knob that can be tuned .
It has a screw instead of rivet , so you can remove it and add bearings and shims .
I can’t vouch for the US versions .
Plus the spools for 2023 Legalis will fit the older ones , so I ordered four 1000s shallow spools for my older USA Legalis .
They fit the gold/black and the blue versions .
If only I could find new handles cheap .

Thanks for the info gill. I ordered a pair of the LT 2000 reels. I I previously bought shallow spools for the older Legalis. If the Spool from the 23 fits the older models, I'm hoping the older shallow spools will fit the 23 model.

    They should work.

The only one of the group that spools won’t interchange is the Fuego Lt and that’s because it has a bearing under the spool . I was going to pull the bearing and use a Legalis shallow spool , but changed my mind when the 23 Legalis spools went up after I bought them .

Is the newest model Legalis from Daiwa .
Comes with new Airdrive rotor and newly designed Airdrive bail , a thinner tubular bail.
The handle screws directly into the drive gears instead of a through handle shaft .
Should make it a smoother tighter handle with less wiggle and play .
Holds 120 meters of 2# test line .
As quick as Digitaka are , I should have it one day next week .
It has a 5.2/1 gear ratio , wish it were a little slower , but 5.2/1 should be too fast for jig tossing .
I’ve seen a picture and it’s a great looking black and gold reel .
Will review when I get it and hopefully get it properly slimed .
I’ve read good things on the Legalis. Looks like a very nice reel. I’ve been impressed with Daiwa’s stuff.

Got a chance to try the 23 Legalis out today. The past couple of days have been warm for this time of year, enough that the ice came off my pond.

I didn't want to take the time to spool line onto the reel, so I just put one of the spare spools for the older legalis on it.

Rigged up a .5 size 8 jig hook with a Mille colored trout magnet, walked across the yard to the pond. Messed around for about a half hour, twitching the trout magnet. Managed to catch somewhere between 5 to 10 bluegill/sunfish.

Temps were slightly below 40 today with some wind, enough to put a bow in the mono line I was using making the twitching a little tough to feel the bite.

I fished the reel enough to figure out that I couldn't feel the play in the handle while twitching like I could on the older Legalis reel. I had played around with checking for play when I first got the reels, I could feel some play when holding the spool and moving the handle, not as much as the older Legalis but some.

I'm pleasantly surprised that when actually fishing/twitching I didn't notice the play. It won't be replacing my presso reel, but for the $75 I paid, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better feeling shallow spool reel.

You’re teasing me again chaser.I’m weak when it comes to good gear and I just bought my 4th Sahara 3000 for my salty stuff. They do well for the money. I have a 7’ light action rod from academy that is very nice and I think I want a 2000 or 2500 for it. I’ve got several that I’ve swapped onto it. Right now a President 25 is on it but I’m not happy with it. It casts fine but I do t think it’s enough reel for the coast. I’ll probably do some homework and look into a reel for it in February.
