    Default Treading new water!?

Hello again folks! Heres a fun reading as I'm constantly seeking ways to "match the hatch" or in this case more like match the CATCH rather. As most folks probably saw couple of my posts I've dabbled here there when come to fishing equipment and baitcaster is no exception, as long as it's UL. My love for this hobby always point me to learn using different tackle to bring in anything within reach, and that usually means shore or bank fishing for small to decent size varieties and I'm forever grateful I can still find waters where I can. Long story short, I've 2 broken Abu UL and a XUL rods and decided maybe 2 wrongs can actually make a right and inadvertently might have created THE shortest BFS-UL rod, well sort of. Ever since i hooked into a foot long channel cat on a 3foot rod, I wanted a proper "short" UL casting rod to push the envelope further to see how small a lure a can throw to these panfish and creek trouts (if i ever come across 1...lol.) I was out casting a 2-gram top water lure, lightest I've ever attempted on any baitcaster! The rod was exactly 36 inches...a whole foot shorter than what's available from Tenryu or Smith JDM BFS rods. However, neatless to say I was skunk due to mirky water cause by storm. Hope to test this fun BFS-ul system again soon. Cheers!Name: 20230810_190438.jpg

Very cool. I have been known to use zip ties in the same manner…wish I had invented them. LOL. Thanks for the share.

Thanks, SuperDave! The handle alone too nice to throw in recycling bin...lol. Plus I'd think the short rod be perfect for dock or pier jigging around pilings for perches.

As you may have known, Gill, the top section of Abu MB iii is the most UL I can think of comparing with all available Ice fishing rod out there. They tend to be more toward the light power instead for fish from Bluegills to pikes. For that it would defeat the purpose I'm trying to create with these broken rod parts. Cheers!

I own a 36” ice fishing rod but haven’t fish with it yet . 3’ just feels so odd holding and casting.
I own a couple of pocket fishermen, talk about short rods .

Gill, I think 36 inches as short as I'll go for the type fishing I like as well, which is pond dock and the salty piers jigging for whatever lurking below. However I'm looking forward to fish the mini spinners and small jigs for panfish to see how this home contraption will fare...lol.

I bought a spinning rod built from a replacement tip section for a fly rod, it’s 42” long and slated for my Granddaughter in TN. It’s a bit bony but well built well with good components. It doesn’t load much with the tiny stuff but does very well with 1/16. Good luck with the project/experiment and I’m looking forward to the results.
