    It could be the jig hook. One of my favorite rods is a very parabolic XUL. Note the bending curve under 100 grams.

    Never had any issues setting the hook with the reel using JDM hooks on panfish and bass. Also domestically available fly jig hooks with a tungsten bead. I use 1.75 lb Ester Lemoni and keep a loose drag.

    Got a similar XUL in 5ft 6in. Will fish it over the weekend and report back if the short length causes an issue while reel setting the hook.

    Appreciate the input from everyone. Jigs I'm using are homemade, splitshot crimped and superglued to a #6 Owner jig hook.

    Didn’t have any issues reel setting. The fish were tiny bream. Hooks used were fly jig and streamer hook with a tungsten bead.
