    Default SUL and XUL Saturday

Spent Saturday fishing for pans, caught two crappies over 10 inches. Fished all day with the Presso Air XUL and Abu Garcia Nano SUL. Blugill/sunfish to Crappie ration was probably around 8 to 1. Most of the bluegill were around the 7 inch size. Late in the trip I found myself guessing what size the fish would be based on how much the rod was bent, a couple of times the rods were bent nearly in half, found myself thinking this must be a really good fish, only to have a 7 inch bluegill on the end of the line. Those two rods sure can make it fun catching average size fish, even 5 inch dinks put a nice bend in the rods.

Sounds like a fun trip. Funny how the rods and reels can really improve and impact the fishing experience

I found the same thing Sunday. The new rod of mine is lighter than I’m used to and I tried guessing what it was by the fight. I learned that you can ball up that idea and throw it from the window of a speeding car. The redbreast are in a class of their own. Several times I thought I had a nice gill or maybe a coppernose only to find that I had a 5 or 6 inch redbreast. They make the day more enjoyable.

I had a good time, It would have been epic had the walleye that was following a 5 inch sunfish I was reeling in taken it. The walleye followed it right up to within a foot of the boat. It was well over 2 ft long. Pretty sure I could have never landed it though, I was fishing 1g jigs on a #6 hook tied directly to Varivas Lemoni line, no shock leader. I got tired of tying on the shock leader after the first couple of times I got snagged on brush.

Also saw a mature bald eagle come down to take a fish, not sure if it got one or not it was close to 100 yards away, if it did it wasn't a very big fish.

After making this post I realized that I have more JDM SUL/XUL rods that I fish with than anything else.
    Abu Garcia Eradictor 73 SUL
Major Craft Finetail 62SUL, I did buy an UL for my daughter in law from a member here.
    Abu Garcia Nano 602 SUL
Diawa Presso Air ags 510 XUL
Daiwa Presso ST 534XUL just arrived today. Had to dodge the rain showers to try it out in the pond.
