    Default New Mustad Hook

Found out some interesting info yesterday. While news of this hook had already been out it was really about the bass world. But what intrigues me is Mustad will also be making their new Alpha Point hook in light models. Meaning #6 and #8, and smaller fly hooks. They will also have these hooks for jig heads. The best hooks are usually chemically sharpened, as these will be. Of course this new hook will be more expensive as quality hooks usually are. I’m sure we will eventually see these hooks make their way into micro jig heads. Which is where my interest comes in. Would be nice to have a superior hook on a US market jig head.

    Regards

Good to know. Thanks for the info. It will be nice to see jigs using them.

I’m ready for some of those. My sickles are good but I’d like to see something better.

I found some Mustad Alpha Point streamer hooks online and ordered a couple of boxes of 25 in size 10 and 12 4x long .
Plan is to glue a tungsten bead on them .
They arrived today and I got chance to play with them tonight as things settled down .
I’d ordered some 3mm and 3.3mm tungsten beads that also arrived today .
The beads are smaller than I expected. But should give enough weight to sink a Trout magnet . Not a mini TM , the hooks are too long . I have others for that .
First , the boxes they sale these in are a pain to open , especially for old hands . I had to use a screwdriver to get the top off and the I dumped them in a small ziplock bag .
I left a couple of size 12’s out to try the beads out and after slipping the beads on ,I noticed the 3.3mm went a little too far over the hook eye . Close examination revealed there wasn’t a hook eye . Just a crooked twisted end to hook .
    So much for quality control.
As far as sharpness, they don’t seem any sharper than some Waspi Super jigheads I recently ordered that have Mustad 32833BLN Ultra point hooks . Just my opinion.
Definitely don’t feel as sharp as some Daiwa GEKKABIJIN AJING jigheads I picked up back when they were reasonably priced on Amazon .

I'm going to check out the bigger jig hooks. Maybe just order a couple packs for sharpness comparison.
