Default Info on finesse worm hooks for small plastic baits

Saw previous post where members were looking for these and mentioned they were out of stock. Amazon Japan has the following in stock. Varivas Nogales Inch Hook Size L,R,S Quantity 10. Decoy SS Finesse offset hook Worm 19 Size 10 Quantity 10. Pics show Decoy #10 compared to smallest local worm hook I could find Size 8. Quite a bit of difference in size.(top left bait in Pic 1 is a Trout Magnet) Decoy is 11/16" long x 1/4" wide. #8 hook is 15/16" long x 1/2" wide. Second pic shows a 1/32 oz. weedless jighead that Charlie Brewer sold for small baits (top bait Pic 2 is a 1" Slider) Don't think they are in production any longer. Though this may help with the sizing of these hooks. The Decoy hooks are good in small diameter baits as shown, but not small baits with larger diameters. The Brewer jigheads were good for larger diameter small baits.(JMO)Name: DSC03395.jpg

Lots of years back I found some double offset worm hooks in #1 and thought I’d found a magic bullet. And it was, to a point. 6lb mono and a 1/32 bullet weight or none at all. I was catching more bass than I ever thought possible. Now there’s a lot of choices for 3 and 4 inch worms and such and I’m gonna have to try it again. Braid has changed a lot in that time too giving me the ability to set the hook better. So much vegetation on the bottom here makes weighted baits unusable in some areas but weightless is king. Makes you learn to line watch real quick. These hooks are gonna reopen a door I never thought I’d go through again. Thanks for the posts.

I could never get the slider heads to work well. It seemed to me that crappies often did not close their mouths all the way after sucking in the bait, so the non exposed hook would pop right out on hookset. Having a fish tank kind of proved this, the crappies almost always sucked in a minnow and left their mouthes open so they could readjust the bait in their mouth to go down head first.

Bass chomp their mouths down hard after eating so weedless works well for them. Panfish as well, i caught bluegill on the slider heads.

Has anyone been real successful with weedless rigs for crappie?

dannypeoples- Did you receive those Ryugi size 8 worm hooks? I would appreciate seeing comparison pics since sizing seems to be all over the place and not a lot of smaller weedless panfish hooks presently available. Thanks.

Apologies for the delay. Had a lot going on. I agree the sizing is all over the place.

I used a ruled page so you can also compare the hook gape. As you can see the Varivas inch hook in small size is the tiniest. I have caught small bluegill on dropshot with it. Bluegill in the 5 - 6 inch size have no trouble taking this hook. Varivas inch hook in regular size and Ryugi in size 8 are quite similar.

My caliper battery needs replacing but I can eyeballs it and say that the Ryugi hooks are thinner.

    An update:

Yesterday I had the Ryugi hook get deformed which unhooking a fish. Tried to bend it back (being lazy… didn’t want to swap out the hook on the Cheb rig) and it snapped! Haven’t had that happen with the Varivas inch hooks.
