Good write up and pics. Some interesting catches. Good job. Thanks for sharing
Hello fellow UL anglers! First of all I like to say it's been a while since I've done any kind of equipment write up or performance report. I got this travel rod little close to a year ago and this was its first time stuck in a luggage to anywhere. I know this site is for non saltwater but it's UL applications I'm sharing with and hope I won't get roast for taking you folks along.
You see this Major Craft Trapara Mobile rod was one of very few true UL (line 2lb to 6lb and lure 1 to 8g) rods available I can find and a JDM at that since only sold in one of Japanese online site. It was a entry level rod with a price of around $70 at time of purchase but has impeccable build quality. So those like me who don't like the inconvenience of renting rods which often in poor condition or of poor quality when traveling, this can be the ticket.
So long story short I took the whole family to Disney World Resort to enjoy the many theme parks and upon researching there were numerous ponds and lake stocked full with Florida strain of bluegill or AKA: the copperhead. But to my surprise because of certain incident involving alligator's attack of a child, now all water are not allowed to be near, let alone fish in. All except 2 ponds and one, the Ol Man Island fishing hole at the Port Orlean Riverside Resort, is where I git my chance to wet a line. I was very excited to say the least.
The Trapara casted the trout magnet beautifully. It casted the spoons, the spinners, the floating and slow sinking Timon JDM lures all with ease. I saw the Bluegills following. I saw the largemouth bass following. BUT none was interested in what I had to offer. And to add salt to injuries, the Ol Man bait shop had ran out of worm and was waiting on a shipment. What a desperate fisherman to do you might ask. Well, the desperate fisherman got himself a rental the following morning and excused himself from the family to enjoy the Animal Kingdom or the Epcot parks for themselves and headed to Ponce Inlet and Port orange causeway park to undo the embarrassing afternoon he had endured at bass pond. Here at the Atlantic inlet, the rod performed extremely well, bending beautifully to fish as small as 4 inches long and strong enough to pull split shot out of jam. The Major Craft has proven to be well built staying intact the whole 3 hours of fun. Here's a few photos of fish (17 total) caught and a few surprise visitors. Thanks for listening, all! Fish on!

Sounds like a great rod. Those salty fish can be scrappy fighters

I wish I’d known you would be here, you were in my neighborhood. If you’re still here, let me know and I’ll introduce you to some coppernose. Those were some nice fish you got. The mangrove snapper in the third pic are excellent table fare. Finding them over 10” can be a challenge as there are thousands at 9 7/8 it seems. Glad you had a good time. When you crossed the St. John’s river on the way to the coast, you should’ve waved. I was close.

Nice catch , nice fish , nice rod , nice save !
I’ve almost bought that rod a couple of times but wasn’t sure about a telescopic rod . Even though I own a few Tenkara rods .
Thanks for the write up !

Thanks for good gesture, Skeet. Being my first time in any part of Florida I can say I truly love your neck of the woods and will definitely be visiting again, if not sooner.

Truth be told Gill, I actually brought 2 telescopics, one being a medium light variety taking up to 12 pound line. Since I haven't seen much actions from folks at the dock baitin-N-waitin for something humongous, I decided against rigging it up. I've been known to cheat when the going gets tough but I always be reminded of Randy, a cherished member here, regularly bringing to boat large giants like the drum he caught with his JDM ultralight...lol. That said, if you are on the fence, don't be doubtful. The Major Craft is a very well put together rod on the lower end of price spectrum when it comes to JDM stuff. When lined up correctly those floating guides are tough and should stay intact for as long as necessary. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Should you plan another trip this way, give me a heads up and we’ll go play. 3 ramps within ten minutes of the house and enough gear that you only have to bring yourself.

Great read, glad you got into fish. Major Craft does give lot of bang for the buck. Just got a Days ML to fish for trout in current using the D2 jig. Have a Days L version on order to fish same jig with no current using the 1/16 ounce.
Regards
