Default Reel case and spare spool holder

I decided I wanted a better way to store/transport the reels and spare spools I've managed to accumulate the last couple of years. Particular the spare spools. I had neoprene covers for some of the reels but wanted a more organized way to store them.

I ordered a 3 different reel cases from amazon and picked up the Basspro model this weekend while on a trip with my wife to visit family on the other side of the state. I also found a case for the spare spools while there, really happy with that as I was struggling to find something for them.

First a small case I plan to use as part of a travel kit. A fishpond Ripple Reel Case size Medium.

3 Diawa LT 2000 reels two Legalis and a Regal fit in this bag. The Diawa LT reels take up a little more room than the reels that have spinoff handles as I normally just fold the handle.

3 Abu Garcia reels one 1000 and two 2000 fit with no problems with the handles removed.

The left size has 4 Diawa LT 2000 reels they will fit but it is a tight fit. The right side are 4 Abu Garcia 1000/2000 series reels with the handles removed a much better fit.

Same bag with only 3 Diawa LT 2000 reels on the left side, a much better fit.

Looks good and a nice neat way to store, transport and protect those reels.

The last case I ordered from Amazon the Plano Molding Guide Series Reel Locker. This case is about 1.5 inches taller than the other Allen and Bass Pro case and a little taller than the fishpond case. It is also a more rigid case than the others.

The top row is 1 removable handle reel and 4 Diawa LT 2000 reels. I'm pretty sure a 5th LT 2000 would fit where the removable handle reel is but I couldn't get 6 of the Diawa LT's fit. I didn't try removing the handles.

The bottom row is 6 removable handle reels size 1000/2000, it's a tight fit but doable if needed, five would be a much easier fit.

Nice. I’ve got the Plano reel case. After seeing this I’m ordering the Fish Pond case.

The last case is Bass Pro Shops® Extreme Reel Tote. It's the same height as the Allen but more of a rectangular shape.

Bottom row are 4 Diawa LT 2000 reels and a Shimano. The 5 reels fit this case pretty well. The top row are 5 removable handle reels they also fit well with the handles removed.

When looking at the bags I couldn't find many pics with reels actually in the case to see how they would actually work out. The fishpond and Allen are marketed as for fly reels so I didn't know how they would work.

Last item is a case for my spare spools that I found at Bass Pro also. It looked like it would work depth wise for a spool so I went to the reel display and removed a spool from a Legalis 2000 reel to try out. The cover closed so I decided to get it. I would have like to put a couple more spools in it while there but didn't want to asked to leave the store.

Figured out when I got home that it will hold up to 8 spare spools, I only have 7 for now.

It came with a piece of pluck foam, but don't think i will be needing it. The blue color on the bottom of the case is some kind of softer rubber material.

Lol! Randy there ain’t a day when I’m glad I found this forum. The ideas one gets on here are limitless. There’s a lotta good that coms out of people’s generosity with sharing info that would otherwise take a year or many years to accumulate.

Hoping everyone had a blessed week. And since I’m not a retiree… and since it’s a Sunday night before I get back to work… To y’all retirees: I envy you (I know there may be the factor of youthful you may envy me for not being a retired) y’all made the right moves and had the Lord’s blessings to retire. I hope my generation (20 - 50 something) have the good fortune to retire. Reel case and spare spool holder

Y’all hammer em on the weekdays. I’ll catch up on Saturday morning. Reel case and spare spool holder

PS: I’ll look into the fishpond case.

I'm glad you found it helpful. The info you've shared here and your channel has been a tremendous value to me and a lot of others I'm sure.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep all of the cases, the Plano is a nice sturdy case just not sure it is the right size for how I want to use it on my boat. I also don't see needing/wanting 11 reels on a day fishing trip. I was thinking that I would use the reel case to store the spare spools but now that I found the hard case for them I don't need to do that.

I like the suitcase Plano, I’m not much on soft sided cases. Too big for a boat, I agree but would be the ticket for the back of the car or suv. I don’t think you’ll find anything better for the spools. I have a couple of those in different sizes and they’re pretty tough. I’d have to find a way to put some semi rigid dividers in it to keep them from rubbing together. Vibration causes lots of little rub marks and one in the wrong place might ruin a spool. I don’t travel much nor do I have many better quality reels to protect like that. However that may one day change. Good info, thanks.
