Default Daiwa Gekkabijin Saq Sas Replacement?

Ever since Daiwa stopped producing the Gekkabijin Saq Sas jig heads I’ve been looking for something just as good, meaning sharp. While I have a years worth left I’ve been ordering and testing many JDM light game jig heads. Today I got in my Gamakatsu Yoihime round 1.5 gram jig heads with a #6 hook. Well, no way is it a #6 hook. More like an 8 or 9. Anyway headed out to Bald Knob Lake to test them out. I went fully expecting to not catch a thing. I mean the bank bite quit there about a month ago and it has been beyond hot. Much to my surprise I got into a bunch of juvenile shell cracker. Had the Yoihime on the Lunakia 63 with the Twitch Master 3# test nylon. The jig performs very well. Had it dressed with a Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. As you can see from the pic the jig head has a small cup in the head. This gives you constant resistance felt in the line. I had 10 casts and ten fish. All of them stayed buttoned up. So that was one test that passed with flying colors. I have tested a couple of jigs in the past that for whatever the reason fish would come unbuttoned. The next test, and to me it is just as important, sharpness. I’m not ready to declare this as sharp as the Gekkabijin but I tell you it just may be. Now all the jig heads I’ve bought out of Japan have been sharp, and I’ve tried a bunch. But the Gekkabijin took sharpness to another level. The Yoihime just may be the one to fit the bill. I’m ordering some more 1.5 gram in the #4 size. All I know for sure it will be a larger hook than their #6 size. Didn’t stay out long as the heat just drove me back into cooler accommodations. But I sure had a lot of fun.

    Regards

Thanks Randy. Good to know there’s something made to compare to the Daiwa heads.

The #6 certainly looks too small on the 1.5 gram head. #4 probably the answer. Nice redear, certainly entertaining when they are that size.

I get them from digitaka out of Japan. With shipping it works out to $1.30 per jig head. Most folks won’t pay that, but I will.
