Super sharp hook. Just reel and the fish gets hooked.

He does mean super sharp. Japanese hooks are the sharpest you’re going to find. The jig heads I use are like hypo needles. I use a lot of JDM lures. The hooks on the trout lures are insanely sharp. I have some trout cranks that come with front and back trebles. Don’t like trebles so I change them out with a single hook. The trebles on these cranks are a number 8. I learned real quick best way to remove them is to cut them off. A couple of folks wanted some of my cranks so I sold a few….I warned both that those hooks are dangerous. One guy buried one in his finger just taking it out of the package and the other got it when he was changing out the trebles. Since the dollar is so good against the yen I am ordering lots of jig heads and more trout lures. Got to stay stocked up….LOL.

    Regards

Randy… I’ve haven’t needed to set the hook ever since I started to use JDM hooks. Never had the chance to try out the original gekkabijin so I went with Cultiva. They been out of stock ever since I got into procuring JDM gear. Among the domestic offerings the only one I’m very pleased with is Victor’s BG jig head. Though I doubt the hook in them is domestic.

I hear ya. I haven’t had to set a hook in years. I too have some Cultiva. All of the JDM jig heads are sharp no doubt. But the Gekkabijin Saq Sas was the top of the heap. Why they quit making them I have no clue. I have some Daiwa spoons with some Saq Sas hooks on them also. I put in a big order for some Gamakatsu Yoihime round 1.5 gram and they are on the way. The only thing is the smallest hook size for them is a #6. I would prefer some 8 and 10 size. I have enough Gekkabijin Saq Sas to get me through one more year. Victors hook is Japanese made. If he gets some produced in 1.5 gram with something besides a #12 hook might be the one to go to.

    Regards

Beats me too why they stopped making them. The only JDM hooks I’ve had issues with are the barbless ones. It’s tricky to keep the fish pinned on them (both stream and lake/pond). Plenty sharp, but the landing % take a beating (despite a loose drag to accommodate head shakes).

The BG1 heads I have are super sharp and very close to the same size, compared side by side, with my #8 sickle hooks. Way sharper than the sickle.

What are you using for a single hook? I'd like to change out some treble hooks myself.

I want to say I saw Cultiva and Vanfook in Randy’s peg board video.
