I think I’m fairly open minded about trying new tackle .
I like results and you don’t know until you try .
I played around with a few 6’6” St Croix light action rods this morning. I liked everyone of them.
I’m beginning to think guides maybe one of the most important factors in getting the most out of a rod .
All of the rods I cast today have big stripper guides with aluminum oxide inserts .
I was using 1000 and 2000 size reels today . I need to check out these rods with my Soare 500 reels .

Tried three 6’6” light action SC rods this afternoon , one with a Shimano Soare BB 500spg , one with a Sahara 500, and one with a Nasci 500 . All with 2#
Distance for all three was close to the bigger reels by 2-3’ . But the overall weight was less and the rods felt like an extension of my arm .
The only way to get the weight down with bigger reels is to spend more money .
How much is 2-3’ of distance worth ?

For 2-3’….. not much difference to me, and definitely not worth a lot of $$$$.

If a reel does what I need it to do reliably with no hiccups then 2-3 feet is not worth a bunch of money. I've never found any ultra light rod and reel to feel particularly heavy and arm wearing. Now I know there is ultra light gear that feels like you're holding a cloud in your hand. But I can be happy with decent quality gear at a more normal weight.

I agree with y’all. That small a gain isn’t worth much.

Interesting results, I would have guessed the distance difference to be greater. Shows how little I know!

You would think it’d make a bigger difference.
I got out there today with my five footers , mostly with 1000 and a couple of 2000 size reels . Casting the same 1/64 trout magnet and body , there wasn’t much difference in distance . The short rods were doing it .
I still think a lot of it has to do with the guides and the 2# line .

You mean you were getting 60+ feet? Low 40s is about all I have gotten for a 1/64 oz. I def would like 60+!
