Presso is a great reel I have both the 2018 and 2021. As Randy would say the low inertia star up is great. Be careful though the rabbit hole is DEEP. Scott
I know I just ordered an Abu Garcia Beast , but I’m thinking I should have put that money toward what I really wanted .
A lightweight JDM reel to become my “go to” reel .
I’m constantly searching and researching, that how I found the deal on the Beast .
With Father’s Day coming up in a few weeks and with a birthday too , I found what I think is a deal on a Daiwa 21 Presso 1000S-P .
Specs:
Gear ratio: 4.9 / Winding length (cm/handle rotation): 60 / Maximum drag force (kg): 5
Weight: 5.0 oz (145 g)
Standard winding weight: Nylon (lb-m): 2.5-100, PE (No. -m) 0.3-200
Bearing (ball/roller): 12/1
Handle Length: 1.6 inches (40 mm)
This will be what I think is a true JDM reel .

Do you have the revo mgx theta S1000? It’s my favorite reel and I own the 21 presso. Drag is superb on the revo I’m looking to pick up a couple more if I find a deal.

No I don’t .
I got worried about spending that much money on a reel and was afraid it wouldn’t be $160 better than what I already own .
I watched a video on the Presso that said it didn’t have Mag Seal , my Fuego has Mag Seal .
I’m going to wait on my Beast to get here and hopefully I won’t have any regrets about canceling my order .

The Presso is a fine reel. I have caught a lot of fish with it. I like the Beast and it is a very good reel and it will get a lot of use chasing big trout. But it could just as well be a good bluegill reel. The Presso…Luvias 20….Zenon….Ballistic FW are all light reels and are a hoot to fish with. I think for those of us who fish these light reels we fall in love with them. The Theta is also a nice feel and while not as light it is still pretty light. The Presso is very low inertia…and I really like the low inertia reels. I just don’t see how one can go wrong with the Presso.

Thanks Randy for your input .
I’ll be keeping the Presso in my wish list and if the price attempts me closer to my birthday I may get one . My daughter usually gives me a gift card for my birthday and that’ll soften the price .
Meanwhile I need to get the Abu Garcia Beast and break it in on a few gills or maybe a few spotted bass.

Sounds like you will have a great setup when you get it together
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Sounds like you are over half there, gill. Life is short. Get one if you can.

I’m hoping you like the combo and have no remorse. I know nothing outside of Randy’s review and I think another I saw on you tube. I’m very close to pulling the trigger on a Presso myself. I need one like…….well you know. I’ve handled a Shimano that’s the mid $500’s and super light and I’m sure the Presso would impress me just as much. It would also prompt me to build a nice 7’ ul rod to go with it. Or maybe just buy the combo. As I teeter on the edge of that rabbit hole……….
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I’m holding off on the Presso until I’ve received and tried out the Abu Garcia Beast I ordered.
I’d love to fish a 5 oz 1000 size reel for a couple hours. It’d probably spoil me and I wouldn’t touch my other reels .
It’s hard to imagine a reel being that much better.
I feel You can buy a reel for a $100 today that would have cost three or four times as much ten years ago.
