I have the 0.6 PE varivas on a 2000s abu garcia revo beast reel, I've tried it on some of the spinning rods, to be fair none of them were rated for 0.6 PE. with a jig 1 gram and lighter I'm not getting good distance, I can see the line bunching up at the first guide. If I try casting to hard I end up with a mess from the line bunching at the first guide. I tried it today with a 1.5g jig the distance was better, (same as I was getting with a .5g using Lemoni) I still have to be careful about overcasting. I might try puttting it on a different reel to see if that changes anything.

I prefer to use up to 0.4 PE for 1 gram and under. Maybe 0.5 PE. The running guides on the rods I cast 1 gram and under are size 3 - 3.5. I have used 0.6 PE with these and experienced adverse casting distance. However, if the running guide size is 4, then the casting distance is decent (even on 1 gram).

Looking forward to use Varivas double cross for trout in the fall.

I’m using the area super trout master premium PE. I use it in .15 at 4lb, .175 and .2 up to about 5 1/2 lbs. and I like it all. I’m stuck on it. And I’m not just plugging the sponsor. If I put anything over 1/32 on I have to pay attention or it’ll be in the woods. The .15 is on my 5’ ul and really shines. The guides on that rod are small and it behaves like a bigger rod, no babying required. Even a big tilapia didn’t break the line when I grabbed the spool, the hook straightened. I paid for it cuz I ordered direct from Varivas but don’t regret it.

Finally got a chance to get the boat on the water last evening. Only fished the carabus caught a couple decent bluegill, 2 10inch crappie and a 13.5 inch rainbow.

Went back this morning with both rods, caught a couple more decent bluegill in the deeper water. Went to the shallow water end. Didn't find any legal crappie but found a spot that was stacked with fish in the 7 to 8.5 inch range. I switched back and forth between the two rods fairly often. Pretty much every time I had to put a new waxworm on the jig every 3 to 4 fish, was using trout magnets with a waxworm.

The action is different on the two rods but they both are a ton of fun with panfish. I find myself using the carabus more often than the Presso Air AGS, I do that often enough that I've only caught panfish on it. I'd like to see how it is with a bass or even the trout from last night would have been nice to see how it handled that.

That’s a fun day in my book! Nice.

How were you targeting the bluegill in deep water?
    1. Dropshot
    2. or counted down the jig to the bottom and retrieved close to the bottom
    3. Or counted down to a certain depth and kept the retrieve to hang the jig head at that depth?

Counted down to the depth they were showing on livescope, they were kind of scattered in open water.

It was raining today so I spent a good bit of time just puttering around in the garage with fishing stuff. I put the 0.6PE doublecross line on a spare 1000S Legalis spool today. Tried it on an old shakesphere rod with larger guide and a 3g spoon, didn't have any issues with the line that I had previously. Worked my way down to a 1g jig and TM. Moved the reel to the Carabus extreme and repeated the same stuff with no problems. Casting distance wasn't very good with the 1g jig and TM.

Now I'm not sure if the issue was the reel or an issue with how I put the line on the first reel. The line seemed to want to jump off the Beast reel. I should have tried untwisting the line in the yard before I gave up on the line reel combo.

Just to update on the 0.6 double cross line, I did move it to a different reel (Diawa Legalis) and didn't have the problem of the line bunching up on the first guide. I didn't want the line on that reel so I laid the line out across the yard and put it back on the Revo Beast reel. Works fine casting a 1g jig this time. I must have put it on the reel wrong the first time.
