Nice catches
I took Monday off from work and dropped the kiddos off at school and off I headed to meet StanTheMan for a little gill fishing. He already had the boat in the water and a little bad news before I arrived. Water temps were 64 degrees and no bites at typical spawning areas. We had some hail the night before and I don’t know if that played a role in cooling down water temps. When I got there we left the area void of fish and blasted off looking for warmer water. Before we found warmer water temps we hit some water that was 62 degrees. Good luck finding spawning gills I thought until we hit some 65ish degree water. The goal was to put 10 8” gills in the livewell for each of us. Once we found them it came pretty easy but we were for sure a bit early this year. I ended up catching 50 fish on ultra light JDM jigs and Stan caught most of his 40 on crickets. He had the big fish of the trip at 9 1/2 inches. I wish I had a pic of it but I took the picture with his phone. I had 2 9 inch fish and tons of 8 inch plus fish. It was a lot of fun with some quality JDM gear. I believe we had 7 JDM combos on the boat and I brought 4 of them to join in on the fun.

I miss taking out my boat and having four rods rigged up differently at arms reach .

What chaser just said. I usually have 5 or 6 rods in the boat, less when I bring a guest. They aren’t of that quality. I like the handle on those rods and they’re all quality gear, very nice. Y’all would have a good time with the gills I find here, and the surprise fish would have you scratching your head. Some of them run large here. I. Glad y’all got out and had a good trip together. I’ve gotten texts the last few days that the crackers have showed up here. Now I need Togo find my own. Good Job Fella’s!!
