    Default Recent Catches

The recent fishing report is coming a little late this week. What started out as fun filled weekend of fishing and getting the grand baby fix in Va at my daughters house ended with a trip to the doctor and a couple days out of work. We will start with some swag I caught right here on this great site and one of our sponsors sites.

Thanks Slab for the additions to my order, the new Crappie.com hat in the center is my favorite. Also thanks to Varivas for the recent Customer Appreciation Sale, these two flagship braids should easily get me through the summer and fall season. So Friday afternoon I strolled out to the lake to check out the water conditions and found what was obvious the minute I stepped out the vehicle in VA….pollen overload. The Redbud trees, Dogwood Trees, Azaleas, Oak trees and every Pine tree in the state were spewing the yellow dust into the warm windy air.

You can see it in clumps between the emerging pads. I pitched a couple buggy lures Friday afternoon and as usual the Panfish were hungry and cooperative.

Three species were caught on three different lures, the crappie really liked the Creek Bug tipped with a nibble. Friday was a success and I was looking forward to Saturday morning. Early the next morning I saddled up on my trusty paddle powered aluminum steed armed with the Majorcraft Finetail, Daiwa Presso, and Varivas Avani braided line, the one pictured above on the left.

I changed jigheads to the Deps/Reins with a #6 hook and proceeded to flat whack the Crappie, a few gills wanted to play and a bass even tail walked a time of two for me.

A good morning session was had, but by 9am the pollen was getting to me and I started feeling as if the Claritin was losing ground fast.

The afternoon session on the lake I tried the Eurotackle EPF 1in Swimbait on the same JDM jighead and the fish were slamming that bait as well. Tipped with a nibble, the tiny tail swimming action was perfect when waked up near the surface as it was getting dark. After a long day of playing with the grand babies and cooking a good meal for all and fishing I knew something was definitely up with my throat and sinuses. Allergies were raging by the night time and a Sunday morning fishing session was out of the question.

Here is a picture of the supposed to be white crystal color line, turned to ugly yellow and I am sure that is what the inside of my lungs looked like as well. The typical itchy eyes sore throat and constant sneezing was getting worse and the wife had to drive us home while I tried to sleep. No relief was had the next couple days and it got bad enough to send me to the doctor for a shot and some meds. Yep caught me a good old Rhinovirus, thanks Mother Nature, not the catch I wanted or was fishing for. Finally the antibiotics, cough syrup and Prednisone have fought off this unwanted catch and I am planning my next venture this weekend. Get out there and catch something, just not a nasty cold!

A great post with some real colorful models for the pics. Sorry to hear about the sinus issues, surely uncomfortable. Mine get set off from some of the pollens, I would have had a similar reaction, I’m sure. Glad to hear of all the fish, next time you’ll get the fish and hopefully the pollen will be gone.

It was been especially heavy this year up this way. I have been living on allergy tablets for the past month.

Beautiful catches and enjoyed the story right up to the end, Stan. Sorry to hear about the severe reaction to the pollen(s). The fish were wearing some pretty nice suits - good colors.

Glad you got to visit the grand kids and catch some fish in the process. Nice looking gear, baits, and fish. Glad you are on the mend as well. Hope we can sore lip some gills soon!
