That’s a fish every 1.8 minutes . WOW ! What a day .
That’s some quick casting , catching , playing , netting and releasing.
Bet that wore you out .
Had a great 4 hours at Normandy today. Landed 130 trout….129 like the small one and one 19 inch brood trout. Used TenRyu Rayz Spectra 6’ 1” Lite Lite rod spooled with 5.6# test Varivas Infinity PE X8 line and a 5 foot section of Leland’s Lures Phantom FC leader 2# test. Water was a little fast for me to fish the Trout Magnet the way I like so used a Forest MIU Abalone colored 4.5 gram spoon single hook. Sooner or later they will turn the flow down and will be able to use the Trout Magnet and some SUL…XUL and, XXUL rods. To say today was a fun day is an understatement. Life is good and getting better!

Might have been a little more than 4 hours as I didn’t check the clock until I got home….but it was no more than 5 hours. Lot of good things about today…..had the river to myself for most of the time. They were stacked up just where the books say they should have been. Cast into the riffle and let it drift into a slightly flat pool and bam…..hit every time. Didn’t lose a single spoon…..which was a feat within itself. The brood trout tore up the hook pretty bad so had to tie on a new spoon but have replacement hooks. You are right…I am wore out. One doesn’t want to leave when you get into them like that. Two months ago I could not have stood for longer than 10 minutes. When I had my spinal surgery exactly a year ago my doc told me it could take a year to see full benefits of the surgery. I had some immediate relief but the muscle weakness in my right leg would not allow me to walk very far at all or stand for long periods of time. About 6 weeks back I woke up and the muscle weakness was gone. Didn’t even tell my wife about it for about 2 weeks as I thought that my problem would soon return. Well it may yet return but so far I’m a new man. My back gets sore but I figure that is from lack of use for several years. Two weeks ago did a tour of the Biltmore in North Carolina. To most not a big thing….but I have to say the place is huge and you have to navigate 200 steps up and down huge stairs. I made it fine. Looking forward to the flow dropping so I can don the waders and fish more places.

I’ve read you use a counter to keep track of your catch’s .
I once caught 178 “fish” mostly bluegill in an afternoon. My fishing buddy caught 130 something. All on an ultralight flyrod . Most were dinks , but it can be done .
I too was worn out afterwards and I was probably ten years younger then . Don’t know if I could do it now , but would like to try again . .
That’s some hot action .
I do use a counter. By the time May gets here the river will have about 3200 trout per mile for 7 miles. The only thing that keeps one from fishing it could be the weather….I can’t do the cold anymore….or heavy rains which would cause the flow to be too much for fishing. Sometimes the rains can shut the place down 3- 4 weeks straight. Out on the Little Red and White Rivers in Arkansas one can get close to 200 trout in an 8 hour fishing day. That’s is fun but I’ve leaned by experience….and from what a guide out there told me years ago…..it’s best to book 3 days and take a day off after each day on the water. Two days of fishing like that will wear one out….I’ve done three 8 hour days in a row about 10 years back but I’ll never do it again. We used to drive out on a Friday….fish Saturday and a half day Sunday then make the trip hour drive back home. Used to stay in the Trout Magnet bunk house on those trips but as I told my nephew at Thanksgiving…I’m done with the bunk house…LOL. While it is nice it is just beds and a bath. From now on it is either a nice hotel or an Airbnb for me…LOL.

Congrats on a great outing and improved health !
I've caught a lot of trout before but never even close to that many in 3 days let alone 1 day. What is the possession limit? In Missouri its 4 where we fish. My wife would love a day like that
At Normandy it is 7…any length. The creel reports from past years show only about 7000 trout are harvested from there out of the 25 thousand or so stocked. The rest will be dead by end of July as the water warms up. Then they start stocking all over again come November. But up on the Caney trout live year long and you can keep 7 but there are slot limits. I’ve been going to Arkansas for about 10 years now…on a trip out there if you only catch 50 in an 8 hour day it is considered a bad day. If trout could live year long at Normandy it would be a world class trout fishery. The food source there is off the charts.
