Snuck away two separate times to play a little at a local pond. The pond has two resident fish in it (bass and bluegill). I went out to play with the gills. My first trip I used the Abu Garcia Eradicator 6.10 Light. I teamed the rod up with a Daiwa Presso, 3lb Varivas Twitch Master, a decoy jighead, and a nikko waxworm. This combo brought 40 plus fish to hand in 45 ish minutes. It was a lot of fun and the real stars of the day was the nikko waxworm and the Varivas Twitch Master line.
My second trip was with the Abu Garcia Eradicator Slow Taper 6.7. Again I teamed it up with the same jighead and nikko waxworm but opted for the Abu Garcia Theta as the reel teamed up with some pink Daiwa braid. This trip was not quite as productive with the cooler temps but the fish were a little bigger and the waxworm still did a good job. The cool thing about these baits is they are very similar to the zman baits in the fact that they are very stretchy and durable. I bought several different Nikko baits and the only one I have fished much is the waxworm. I enjoy my trout magnets but these are pretty cool baits. The gills weren’t any real monsters but they were plenty of fun for a couple quick outings.
