Good write up on the rod. I’m a big fan of the Zenon reels for sure. Nothing wrong with those pics.

Any thoughts on the Shimano Ultegra 1000? It seems to get positive reviews for its price point. I am thinking of getting another Finetail rod and pairing it with a decent 1000 size reel.

On a sidenote, why no love for the Daiwa Daysprout 1000S-P?At 155g, it's super light and features 10+1 bearings. It's priced at $301.80 at fishingshop.kiwi...Thoughts??

I doubt you will get a Daysprout anytime soon. Nothing wrong with it but it is just not available anywhere. Over the last 2 years I have tried some pre order from Kiwi but the orders are cancelled down the road. Since covid I have a plan A, B, and C as my initial wants may not be available.

    Regards

I own a Ultegra 2000s . A shallow spool version I ordered from across the big pond .
I’ve been very disappointed in it .
The reel winds smooth , but takes a lot of inertia to get the handle moving . And it sticks up on the low part of the winding stroke .
If you wind it a consistent pace it’s fine , but if you slow wind as in swimming a jig , it’ll stick every stroke .
I’ve hoped it would “ break in “ and it has gotten better , but it’s a long way from my Daiwa reels .
I’ve even attached a drill to it a couple of times trying to break it in .
I’ve had one out of five new model Shimano Sahara 500’s , bought here in the USA that had the same issue , that got returned.
If it weren’t so expensive to return something bought overseas , I would have returned the Ultegra.
I’m sure this was just bad luck for me , but Shimano’s QC isn’t what it used to be IMO .

This has been an ongoing issue with certain Shimano reels for years now. You would have thought they would have it worked out by now.

Thank you, Randy! It's strange because it appears that it is available at Kiwi?

I think I'll stay away from the Shimano reels, like my Daiwa reels a bunch!!

The daysprout is an awesome reel as I have one and have recently looked for a 2000 size in it and have been unable to locate one. I am not sure if they just didn’t make many or what.

Looks like both a 23 vanquish and airity are released recently.

Plat video says made in Japan.

It doesn't look like the Airity comes in a 1000s, though. 2000s comes in at 145 grams with a 4.9 gear ratio.
