Put a Ballistic 1000 with 2# SOS. Can’t wait to try.
For You guys that have a couple Ajing rods - are they normally all stiff? This one is kinda more like a US Rod in Med. Light.

Ive owned a lot of Ajing rodsstill have several. They are all very rigid. I will pull mine out if going after white bass or maybe drop shot for Gills. They are extremely sensitive. It is rare I fish with one anymore though. Since they started making the hybrid Ajing/Mebaru rods I much prefer them along with the trout rods. An Ajing rod was the first ever JDM rod I purchased. I have a Mega Bass Shore Luck Limited UL that I keep in my rod case and pull it out to just to look at every so oftenLOL. It is a thing of beauty.

Randy with that Rod being that rigid, ester line wouldn’t work well with this Rod correct? You would have to depend solely on the reel drag.

Those rods are designed to be fished with ester.FCand PE. Ive read a lot of articles where many will only use ester for Ajing fishing. They say FC has too much stretch to get a hook set on the fish. I would love to see someone fishing for horse mackerel. From all Ive read you have to have good gear.and good reflexes to get a hook in one. Keep in mind those rods are designed to catch a fish that averages about 7 inches. Evidently it is tough to detect the bite of one.thus the need for ultra sensitive rods and short lines.

I haven’t fish with ester or the ajing Rod yet but as rigid as both of them are I bet it’s very sensitive. I have a spool of 2.5# I just got. I may spool it up and go give it a try.

I had a day with the Rod and Ester. The Rod - very sensitive but the line, had to remove a few yards due to it jumping off the spool which you guys warned me and how easy it will break. I guess we don’t realize how much pressure we put on the line and rods while we fishing.
you definitely have to have your drag set loose. I landed 2 shell crackers, 2 crappie and 3 bluegill. I didn’t break off on any fish until I got them in the boat. I’m use to picking the fish up with the line. Going to be a learning experience or will have to find a line that I don’t pucker up when a fish strikes but I guess that’s all the fun!
I was looking on Varivas web site and they have a PE that has a .074mm with a 5.4 # test. The name is Infinity. Has anyone tried it yet?

If you dont have a net you will need to get one using Ester line. It can be hard to mange but I love it. The Infinity PE line is awesome. I have been using it on trout the past 4 weeks. Casts like a dream. I use an FC leader and the knot strength between main line and leader is superb. While braid does not sink I am going to use it in deeper water as the line is so thin I think a 1.5 or 2 gram jig head will get down pretty quick. Cant recommend the Infinity enough.no manageability issues with it at all.

Great you hit on a problem I’m having. Most of the water we fish in extreme south Louisiana is about 2’ to 4’ slowly tapering off to 6’ to 8’ . Most of the water we fish is natural bayous with lots of structure. that why a lot of folks here 99% fish float / fly rig. Since I started playing with this JDM equipment and reading all this info I can take a 1/64 jig head with TM and cast it and be able to let it slow fall and slow reel it in or twitch it back to the boat but I need a line that’s has a higher # test due to the terrain.
my question is - will the braid/ PE help hold the jig higher in the water column since it’s lighter than water or will it want to float to much causing the jig to work toward the surface after being retrieved a few yards? I hope I’m explaining this correctly.

Have you tried the Twitch Master line? I would try the 3lb in it if I were you. I think it is a really good line with good abrasion resistance. I have the 5.4lb infinity line as well and I will say it is a good line. I have had no issues with it and actually ultra light fished with it some at the beach. I was using a 1 gram jighead and was able to get the braid down to some shallow flounder and random smaller fish just playing around. Ester and I have never gotten along. I have tried several different brands and the only one I could remotely stand was Sunline Aji no Ito. I had decent luck using it in the 2.5lb size. In summary I like the 3lb Twitch Master the best and it is my go to line but you might find braid to be more in your wheel house?

I use the SOS 2lb line with all of my JDM rods/reels. I've got some of the Varivas but I'm just not sure it would hold up to the big shellcracker and occasional catfish I'm required to do battle with...
