Awesome on the reel purchase... I looked at the Theta some myself but really don’t need another reel right now... what are your thoughts on the Thetas reel ratio 5.2:1?? I almost put one in the cart but that kind of kept me from it since all my setups for crappie have the lower ratio reels... just curious... looks like it has a lot of good stuff in the internals...

I keep going back and forth between the 1000s Theta, the Ballistic FW LT, and the MGXtreme. As you mentioned, the latter cant be found in any of the usual places. Where I have seen it, the price is north of $400.

Really looking forward to your thoughts on it. I may not be too far behind you in purchasing.

    Cheers.

The 1000 Ballistic FW LT is a tiny bit lighter and does have the lower gear ratio, but does not have the bling (red bail..holes galore) or the balanced look with as the ABU reel does on the ABU rod. I am debating these same two reels myself, have the Daiwa Presso 1025 on mine right now and should probably leave well enough alone. Will be following this purchase as the ABU Eradicator will be getting more seat time as it cools and I can access some of my favorite bank spots.

Here is a link to one of the blogs...cannot find the other right now. I did not need a new reel....but I was so impressed with the Eradicator I thought why not try out one of their reels. I know what to expect from any Shimano or Daiwa spinning reel I want but have no clue about the JDM Abu Garcia. At least I'll have a frame of reference after using it so I can discuss how it is. It does have a bling factor if you have an Eradicator rod...or any black and red rod..or all black. I would not be surprised to see Abu Garcia come out with a new MGXtreme with this new main shaft that is the big selling point for the Theta.

Hello Alphahawk, I know Ill be off topic a little treading in this Abu Garcia/ Daiwa conversation but anyone here own a Shimano Twinpower? Im interested in the 20 c2000s (I think thats the smallest size.) The price still steep but not Vanquish steep and I want to try a good Shimano for once. Theres a regarded gentleman in the saltwater fishing community by the name Alan Hawk did not seem to approve of its quality regarding price charged. But that was reel made years ago and since now its a new design and a non-saltwater specimen Im hoping to see if the reel will live up to the popular moniker-a poor man Stella!...minus the bearing counts of course. Oh its going to be paired with soon to be Tict Rockin finesse 69.

I have one...Im pretty sure it is the 2013 year model. Ive owned it for 5 years. Built like a tank. It was the reel I used for most of the spring of 2016 fishing at Dale Hollow Lake. Got into the smallmouth spawning on the flats that year and was catching 50-70 Smallie a day for about 6 weeks....18-21 inches. It was also the reel I used 2 springs back to get into the Smallies at Nickajack. Its a fantastic reel. Better than the Luvias....of course the price reflects that. C2000HGS model.

Thanks Randy, your word and JDM expertise is golden! I will order one then...Digitaka is probably back from vacation as we speak. They have it for $318 American dollar. My original intent was to get the old new stock Daiwa 16 certate (prettiest reel IMO) 2004 size since i already have 13 certate in 1003 seen in photo i posted somewhere, but they were out everywhere except Ebay which sells them in access of $400 plus tax and I thought might as well try out something new...like a Shimano. Fishing friend of mine swear by his couple year old Ci4 Stradics but i'm not into carbon frame just yet (not gonna tell him that, lol).

I really like the Daiwa LT reels, but the reels like the Twin Power....the 2015 model Luvias....are really something.....will hold up for a very long time. Really excited to see how the MGX Theta stacks up against Daiwa....Shimano.

Do you think the higher gear ratio will cause issues with keeping the bait in the strike zone?
