On certain models they are. The 2020 Luvias no longer has the 1000 series....and the ones you mentioned. I really like the 1000 series with the 4.8 ratio.

I'll be snagging a Luvias LT in 2000 size as soon as I find one reasonable; I prefer this size for the bigger dia spool for casting and shooting jigs.

Plat is taking orders for February....cost of $307 delivered. Digitaka will have them probably at a little less. Of course I’ll have to get one....LOL.

Randy, I am really liking the Daiwa Regal LT reels. They run around $50, and I have 3 on my dock-shooting (USA) rods. I would love to get some "S" shallow spools for them, but I don't think the Regal is sold in Japan, and I also don't see any bearing upgrades for them at Hedgehog. So I just put some mono backing line on before spooling with "good" line.

Have you any thoughts on these reels? A 10-bearing reel for $50 is a bargain IMO.

Don’t know much about them except a lot of folks like them. Spare spools have become a rarity. One can certainly get spare spools for the JDM reels but they are quite expensive.....and even spare spools for reels sold here in the states aren’t cheap either. I’m sure like me you remember the day when most reels came with a spare spool.

Finally received my new Diawa Ballistic FW LT in the 1000 size today. Took a few days more than expected but it arrived in good shape.

I like the gold trim accents on the reel handle and spool. The reel feels very light, about 150g according to the specs, and has a very fluid motion. The 15 Luvias in this same size has a little edge on this reel for feel of durability and build, and as far as comparison to the Presso LTD, it is close. Once I get line on the reel and it mounted on a rod I hope to try it out soon. A new rod for the new reel may be in the works.

Your assessment is spot on. The Luvias and Presso are better build quality. The 2020 Luvias will be a superior reel. But here is the deal. The 2020 Luvias is about 20 bucks more than the FW on Digitaka. Even though I have not laid hands on the new Luvias no doubt in my mind it will be a high quality build and on the face worth much more than the Ballistic. But when we look at it there is no 1000 series for the new Luvias. The 2000 Luvias......while only weighing in at 150 grams....which is mind boggling.....has a ratio of 5.1 vs the 4.8 on the Ballistic. The difference in line pick up is around 23 on the Ballistic and 26 on the new Luvias. There is no longer a 1000 series Certate......now no 1000 series Luvias. The Presso looks to be out of production which if it is the only med-high end 1000 series left from Daiwa is the FW Ballistic. Pretty smart marketing from Daiwa. The new Luvias 2000 will hold 150 meters of 3# test line......although I don’t think the spool is any larger in diameter......it has been lengthened a little bit. Knowing what I know now I would have bought all the Presso Limited 1025 I could have when they were on sale....a real bargain. I will purchase a 2020 Luvias soon. My first JDM reel was a 2012 Luvias.....then I got the 2015 model....so I will have to get the 2020 model. Both my Ballistics are tuned with the added bearings and one has the Zaion knob on it. My intention is to still get an 1000 series Exist at some point though. Having said all of that I am not ruling out another Ballistic at the price we paid. Paring the Presso Limited and Ballistic FW with a rod sure makes for a super light setup.

    Regards
