Got home from work today and found my Major Craft Day's 632L rod was awaiting me on the porch. The pictures show how Asian Portal ships their rods, they use a rugged triangular box with the rod firmly taped to the inside flat.
I was looking for a 6ft 2 pc light action rod using 6 lb test for kayak fishing. None of my current 3 JDM rods are rated for over 5lb line (1 area trout rod and 2 ajing rods) so I needed another new rod (funny how we can find a reason or need, right?) I plan to fish some waters in the late spring and summer which have the potential for trout in the double digit bracket. That and spring's snow melt runoff can call for a light action rather than ultralight when fishing some of the larger streams using heavier jigs.
The JDM market offers UL, L and ML rods for finesse bass fishing but most of the light action rods in the price range I wanted were not in stock. These finesse bass rods in the lighter models should make for great lunker trout rods. I was particularly interested in a Olympic finesse bass rod but could not locate one in light action. So I figured I would buy a lower end finesse bass rod for now and buy the Olympic if and when it becomes available.
Enter the Major Craft Days Proto Custom. Asian Portal had the 2pc 632L in stock for about $123. With a couple coupons from previous purchases I had one shipped for just $121.
Major Craft describes the Day's series on their website as:
"Trim the decorations to the utmost and make the most of their performance. NEW concept bass rod is now available."
The Day's series is very plain unlike the lower priced Benkei series. I can say this rod is very light and like most JDM rods is very stiff. I will weight soon. Not noodly at all and the action is fast and seems very sensitive. Build quality seems very good with impressive wrappings.
Time on the water with this rod will tell how it performs but so far it does seem very impressive for just $121. I'm looking forward to throwing some heavier jigs and jerk baits with the new Day's rod soon.
