StantheMan2567 thanked you for this post
Do any of y'all use JDM rods for shorter UL setups? Say... 4.5 to 5 feet?
Or should the 6'3" Major Craft I have generally work for most applications?
I own the shimano soare 4’8 in length for small stream fishing. Very practical for me especially navigating overgrown streams that are sometimes less than 10 feet wide. It casts lures as low as .5g extremely well. Very light combo when paired with the matching shimano reel size 500. For bigger river or lakes I use the 6’3 major craft area rods paired with the 1000S Luvias...

John Scott LIKED above post
I mostly fish streams and I much prefer rods around 5' to anything longer - even if the stream is not that tiny. Sure, a 6' rod will cast further, but I don't need to cast further. There are plenty of fish between where I stand and where I cast to. If I could cast 10 yards or 100 yards further I don't think it wouldn't make any difference. I can wade closer (or move the boat if I'm on a lake).
I have a 6'1" rod I absolutely love (the Tenryu Rayz Alter RZA61L-T area trout rod). I can't tell you how much I wish it was a 5'1" rod! It would then be the nicest small stream trout rod I'd ever fished!
