Beginning today (April 24) Asian Portal has temporarily suspended sales of their JDM rods. You can still order reels from them but they will ship them FedEx.

    Their website notice reads:

"Due to the influence of COVID-19, Japan Post has stopped all delivery, so from April 24, all products will be delivered by FedEx. In addition, the shipment of rod products will be temporarily suspended. For inquiries regarding shipping methods, please contact "[email protected]". Thank you for your kind understanding."

I have had 2 rods on order from them since April 4 and April 14, they are being held at Japan Customs. I also have a Daiwa 20 Luvias 2000S on pre-order since late February from Digitaka. No telling when they will receive and ship that one. Kinda disappointed in Daiwa, they release a new model and can't even produce them?

That's the way it is with Japanese production runs. They produce ever how many they decide and then production stops until they make the next run. All the rod and reel companies there operate this way. I have had to wait months sometimes to get rods and or reels I wanted.

    Regards

If you look on eBay these days, you may find that several sellers who used to offer JDM rods pulled those listings. I suspect the reason is the same as the one listed by Asian Portal. JPangler notes that their deliveries to the US will experience delays of two weeks; I suspect it will be much longer than that. Kind of regret holding off buying more gear from Digitaka during that sale – the discount would have offset the customs and handling fees from DHL. Who knows how long this will last.

I have been impressed with DHL... I just hope they don稚 send me a bill because I have 2 packages so far that have been delivered by DHL and they have been lighting fast... I had an order that I placed on Plat that is being held in Ohio and was supposed to have gotten here yesterday but I am thinking will be here today... hopefully I won稚 get hit with any fees... I still have 1 order sitting in Tokyo and that is reel parts from hedgehog... who knows it I値l ever get that package...

Every time I have ordered something from Japan, it takes about a month to get to me. I知 not quite sure why it takes longer to get to me that other. Shipments probably have to go through more facilities to get to middle America (I guess). When I first got into the JDM game, I could hardly wait for things to make it here. It would almost drive me crazy! No I try not to check on order status. It痴 kind of like when you were a kid in school and stared at the clock all day, the day would drag on and take forever for school to get out.

The good news (if you can really say that) about all of these shipping issues is that I bet Digitaka and Plat run some great sales when the shipping gets back to normal, so that they can catch up on some revenue. I知 going to wait until shipping gets back to normal before I place another order. It will be hard to wait that long, but that just gives me more time to study in rods and reels!

I'll just have to wait, was really looking forward to the Luvias paired up with my Yamaga Blanks TZ. The trout opener in some counties is delayed here until June anyways but there is some open waters.

It appears Japan is pretty well locked down right now:

I hear you. I doubt I値l ever get a shot at a 600 dollar rod for 286 dollars again. Heck....never know.....the thing may show up on my door in the next few months. Japan Post is supposed to return all packages to sender that are in the system but I知 sure some will eventually find their way onto planes.

    Regards

Ultra high end stuff... Have you been looking in the direction of Super Corto AT at all? I can't quite wrap my mind around the price tag...

I hope you get that rod, I look forward to all your reviews.

My hope is this Covid mess starts its downward slide soon so the economy can get back to normal. The world has alot of catching up to do.

Randy, if the rod is returned they might ask you if you would want to go DHL. It would be a shame to miss that price.
