    Thanks for the info.

Did anyone order more recently? That case with the rod shipped via DHL despite being advertised as shipped by EMS has me a bit worried. I might ask Digitaka to contact me first in case they have to go the DHL route. I know they are holding orders in house for customers from Russia. Might ask them to do the same until EMS becomes available...

N-One is stiffer than the triplecross... not by much but it is...

    N-ONE AJI NSL-S662H-AJI SOLID TIP
    N-ONE NSL-T682AJI NSL-T682AJI
    TRIPLE CROSS TCX-T682AJI TCX-T682AJI

I have the following rods and am not really comparing the N-One hard model to the triplecross... it is of course more rigid but even the other N-One is slightly more rigid than my tubular triplecross... I use my triplecross to toss floats with and I bought the N-One hard model for drop shotting and it just wasn’t long enough... will probably sell it since I bought a 7’4” Corto to drop shot with... hope this helps a bit...

Received the following email from Plat. Co. Jp this AM:

    Dear customer.

Now, postal service has stopped under the influence of Covid-19.
Therefore, we started shipping by MyDHL+.

It may be equivalent to EMS at 1 to 5kg packing, or may be cheap.
??t changes with countries. ??br> And it is faster than EMS.

Please check your zone and shipping cost from the following URL.
    https://www.plat.co.jp/english/send/world.htm#DHL

    Very truly yours. PLAT.

PS:If you have any questions, please let me know.

    End of quote.

No current orders with Plat but I do have a stuck order at USPS from another JDM retailer.

In case you're interested in opinions on how much a customs duty might be (to be clear, I am not a customs broker and may be wrong, in which case I shall carry no liability for any mistakes):

Per harmonize tariff system (HTS), it seems that fishing rods (article 9507.10.0040) may incur 6% tariff and fishing reels (over $8.45, article 9507.30.6000) may incur 3.9% tariff. Now, reels appear to be subject to special treatment according to recent US–Japan trade agreement and may incur 0.9% tariff starting in early 2020, but retailers have to enter these items in their customs documents properly (with "JP" prefix before the article number).

UPS seems to include their customs brokerage fees in shipping charges, DHL does not seem to do so. This may be the reason why PLAT, Digitaka, and others prefer DHL. If customs clearance fees from DHL weren't too high (I am afraid they might depend on article's cost from what I have seen on the web, but this is a pure speculation at this point), I'd probably go for the DHL option...

Maybe Alphahawk could shed some more light on his experience with the Fedex shipment.

I don’t have a lot to add. I just know for years shipping companies have been charging handling fees and customs fees if you get it out of Japan. There have been rods I passed on early on in my JDM quest as the store I was looking at would only use a shipping company. You can read a lot about this at Tackle Tour in the “Enthusiast” forum. Bass guys order 1 piece rods...they have to come by a shipping company. They can tell you a whole lot about the fees. If y’all think we have it bad those guys spend thousands of dollars a year on JDM gear. It has been rare for a 2 piece to not ship EMS but it has happened......and don’t let anyone tell you that 2 piece rods never get hit with customs. If it comes by a shipping company you will in all likelihood get hit with customs fees. I can tell you since 2012 I have not been charged any fees on anything out of Japan I received through EMS.

Thanks, Alphahawk. I certainly don't think we have it bad. I thought long and hard to place my first order from Japan through Ebay with a "Top Seller" in fear of various complications and probably overpaid a bit. A couple of months later and I'm not hesitant to order a $300–400 JDM rod from a web-based store when it offers a good deal. As you can see, I think we have it quite good. But the current lack of clarity when it comes to tariffs, fees, and taxes associated with using courier companies gives me, and likely some others, a pause. I had some big plans for that sale at Digitaka...

That one time when you had the rod shipped via Fedex, did you have to pay sales tax in addition to tariffs and fees? Just trying to collect as much info as possible...

I’ve been lucky I guess on sales tax. I’m not surprised I don’t pay any when purchasing from a Japanese web store but TN is notorious for collecting sales tax off of eBay. I’ve never been charged any at all. I’m not sure about the rules but I think a seller has to do a certain amount of business in the state before he has to charge it.

    Alphahawk,

Would you be able to compare Major Craft Truzer 65 with Yamaga Blanks BC 65 TZ? Perhaps I am asking to compare incomparable rods, but I seem to recall you were also choosing between the two at some point in the past. Maybe, you can provide your opinion now that the time has passed and you've been in possession of both?

    Thanks.

I own both....two completely different rods. The BC is light as a feather....smaller butt....tubular rod. The 65 Truzer is a beast of a rod. Don’t remember the weight of the Truzer but considerably heavier than the BC TZ. Im glad I bought the Truzer and enjoyed using it...and will still use it....but the BC TZ is a superior rod. After going down this road and coming to some understanding of what these specie specific rods are used for you can see where both would perform their intended purpose very well. But using these 2 rods as we would they are just not the same. The BC TZ excels at ripping a Trout Magnet for trout.....very sensitive and gives you a lot of fun on smaller trout. The Truzer is sensitive.....but no fun factor really on smaller trout. I have used the Truzer to throw pretty large cranks for brown trout and had a ball catching them. The only cranks I ever used with the BC TZ were tiny 2-3 inch range. Both rods can certainly handle bigger fish but the lure ratings are very different. Truzer up to 12 grams and the BC TZ top end is 5 gram. The BC is the better rod in the end. As they say hind sight is twenty twenty. Now after owning different brands of Ajing rods...not to mention Ajing rods of different technologies....you get a sense of how advancement in blank technology advances the rod. The 2 Graphiteleader rods I own are head and shoulders above the Truzer. Yet in many ways the BC TZ can still hold its own with them.....very much so in the sensitivity department. It seems....for now anyway.....Major Craft is bowing out of the high end light game market....and also high end trout rod market. I’m really looking forward to the next year or so and adding some super high end rods from Ever Green and Graphiteleader. In the end though these high end rods all of us currently own are simply off the charts good. This was long winded but I get carried away in discussing these rods.

    Regards
