Mitchell is my favorite lake to Crappie fish. I grew up fishing it so I am partial because of my knowledge over that time. This time of year, the crappie are deeper than you would think. 20-25ft. If you have decent electronics, find brush piles in sloughs off the main river. Throw a marker buoy on the brush pile and use 3/4 bell weight with hooks tied on leaders above the weight. BIG crappie caught this time of year on brush piles. 2-3lb. is common. Blue Creek also has deep brush piles and the main channel and sloughs headed in to Walnut and Hatchet creek also hold good fish. Remember, fish deep in February and March. I don't catch them shallow until April and May.

thanks for the info, do you think Mitchell is clearer than it was 20 years or so ago, it sure seems to me that it is, at least up Hatchet Creek.
