Default Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay/Creek

I fished the upper end of Limestone today dragging in at the iron bridge. Cold, windy and cloudy all day, just the kind of weather that Crappie always seem to like. I kept a limit and returned another limit plus of larger fish including several that were 14 or 15 inches. Gills and short Crappie seemed to be everywhere plus numerous bass. I tried a new bait (Z-Man Baby BallerZ Soft Plastic Minnow on the Z-Man Micro Finesse ShroomZ Jig Head) fished about 18" below a bobber in two to four feet of water. First time in a while that I've caught fish all day. Creek is up a little with some current and cloudy water with visibility of about a foot. Water was 55 degrees all day. All fish came of edges of the Creek, nothing from the pits.

The Z-Man Baby BallerZ Soft Plastic Minnow is unbelievable, I used the same bait all day and it's still on the rod for the next trip. The material is super soft and stretchy, but very durable. Usually after a couple gill bites and the tail is gone on other soft plastic bodies, but this one holds up!

    flintcreek,

Middle of the creek coming in before the first left is stacked with bass. I'd get tired of catching them but return every now and then. They were biting all day including blowing up on shad on the surface.

This was an impulse buy (looked fishing), I got one package of the Electric Chicken. I tried them on some other jig heads, but they won't set on the jig head right. A few weeks later I picked up some of the z-man finesse shroomz jigheads. Bait slide right on but stays on. I'll have to try them single pole on laydowns next. The jig head hooks are tiny, but I almost always use tiny little hooks, so I wasn't intimidated. I seldom lift fish out of the water, ultralight pole and a very light drag. If I want to keep the fish I net it. Sitting down in the water in a kayak larger Crappie and bass I strip line and bring them next to the boat to "lip". Not sure for anyone in a large boat trying to lift fish in, the tiny hook will probably tear out. I first same them here: Catch Way More Crappie With Jigs! Amazing Setup For Fall! - YouTube the link was posted on here by someone else.

    Damion Kidd,

FYI, they have the jig bodies and jig heads at Cabela in Huntsville, maybe Academy also!
