    Default Yellow Perch

Anyone catch Yellow Perch regularly while fishing for Crappie or Gills? Looking into trying to catch a few and would like to start in an area where there's a few swimming around, LOL. If you don't want to broadcast your secret to everyone just sent a PM. Not looking for an X on a map, just looking for areas where I've got a better chance since Crappie fishermen are catching a few consistently.

    Thanks in advance!

To me they are a rare catch around here just catch one every now and then !
I would like to get into a decent mess of some eater size ones!
I hear of talk some people catch em pretty good during their spawn around here just haven’t ever been able to find out much about when and where ?

Everytime I catch one it’s in current or an eddy.

I have caught a few on Guntersville years back. They were always caught crappie fishing. I have read that they can be found in the eddys below the dams. They certainly are some mighty fine table fare. I wouldn't mind learning to catch them myself

Unfortunately we don’t have them where I live. I hear they are very tasty, some like better than crappie!

In the walleye and sauger family. Sharp gill plates that will slice you open quick like. Absolutely great eats

Maybe three years ago in the late fall/early winter we was finishing up fishing and was headed back to the ramp on lower Flint... we came across a tin boat and asked if they wanted some crappie or some minnows. They said nah they was good. We looked off in the boat and there was 10-12 inches of water in the boat and 8-10 really good yellow perch swimming around in the boat.

Ditch they was sitting a short paddle downstream from the ramp across from Big A's on hwy 31. Im sure this story sounds like BS and theres a reason i aint told it before.

I have not tried in a few years but we used to fish the milfoil around the islands at the end of the airport runway in Guntersville near buck island in late Feb and maybe the first week March, and catch around 5 to 8 a trip using a float with a 1/16 oz jig under it in 3 to 4 ft of water when the grass was just starting to put out. I think they were spawning as water would be in the mid 50'S. It is so silted in now they probably cant now or the ribbon/eel grass has covered the area up
