    Default Gators in Cotaco

I belong to a Wheeler Lake fishing group on Facebook and have been seeing posts and pics lately about the Gators in Cotaco Creek. Watch out!

I know it’s not news to some of you but I’ve been taking a little small plastic boat in there for a few years and have not seen them. Guess I won’t do that again!

They are everywhere. Up until recently I thought they were pretty much contained to wheeler refuge at limestone. I saw a big one a couple weeks ago at Beulah bay. I saw where there was one around the main river at cowford. Talked to a buddy that saw one this last weekend at a lake that I would have never dreamed there were any. I don’t likem, but not gonna let them keep me from fishing.

As long as people don't start feeding them, you'll never have an issue. People fish, swim, and kayak around gators all the time farther south. I see them pretty regularly on wheeler while I'm in my kayak. Not a big deal, other than being a cool sighting.

With all the publicity they are getting now I’m afraid people will start feeding them.

I've wade fished Cotaco creek since I was a little boy, all the ones I've seen there are 8 feet or less. I have never considered them a threat and when I see them they normally head the other way. If I ever see one like the one people see at Limestone, I would probably reconsider what I perceived as a threat.

No one takes my theory seriously. Everyone has heard about them for years. It was said to be a hoax. I thought that too for a long time. Until me and some buddies stayed persistent until we saw stumpy. Then no one believed us for years. Now it’s all over social media. It’s been on the news. All these people just seeing this have no clue. They would think it’s cool to go find them and feed them. That happens a good bit. Then some unsuspecting fisherman that knows they are there and have fished around them for years goes like they always have. Would that not be dangerous??

They get pretty tame when ya feed then. They lose all fear of people. Any commotion on the water and here they come. Be sad for the gators in the end

The gators are more afraid of you than you are of them. The most dangerous thing in Cotaco now that the summer season is here is all the other boaters out there. I've been nearly run over at least 3 times and I spend half the time im out there picking up empty beer cans that they all leave behind.

Have to second that, I would much rather be in the water with gators than drunk and stupid recreational boaters!
