Default Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Bay/Creek

I fished the upper end of Limestone Bay today from 9AM till just before dark. The fishing was slow but a got a few keeping 26 and returning about the same number of short fish. I seemed to find small gills and strip everywhere. The water was clear with visibility of about 18 inches in the current and 52 degrees at daylight. Out of the current the water was a little cloudier and started at 54 degrees. The water had warmed to 54 in the current and 58 in the pits by 3PM. The fish were scatter with most coming off a jig with a pink and Chartreuse tube about 18 inches below a bobber. The lake is about four feet below full pool and dropping. It was nice to finally have some time to chase a few Crappie. Pics tomorrow when I clean them!

Great report. With the water that low, most of the places I caught them last week will be high and dry. With the low temps this week, I hope they will be moving up the creek ready to hit the pits when the water comes back up. With the low water it does eliminate a lot of water

The pits are three to four feet. I wished the water would stay at this level for a few weeks and warm up now!

These were about 70% males and half or better of the larger fish I normally would have returned but I'm trying to get a few messes of fish together for a coworker's elderly parents. The females had large egg masses, but I'd say were at least a couple weeks away.

It was slow going but I took home a bucket. More than I hoped for with the weather cooling off. I talked with a guy on the bank who said he kept a limit and tossed back many last week in only a few hours after work. The water was low 70's then so I'm guessing there are many, many more that didn't bite, LOL! He'd been there since daylight and when I saw him and he only had a handful on the stringer at mid-day. Dogwood is trying to bloom in my backyard, we just need a week or 10 days of warm stable weather.

Type above, 60's last week. If the water had been in the 70's we'd be done!
