Another productive day at Purdy
Returned to my new found crappie hole this morning at Purdy.
It really is a gem in the area. When the concrete and stress wears me down through the week all it takes is a walk in the woods and a line in the water for all my troubles to disappear. The woods still make me feel like a child. It is the Creator's playground, made for us to enjoy after all.
Water conditions were the same as earlier this week. It was a bit cooler than Thursday and the overcast skies much thicker.
Arriving shortly after sunrise I was met by a curious otter, which I took to be a good sign. Indeed it was as I caught a small striper off my first cast to keep the skunk off. From there I quickly put 4 slabs on the stringer using the 1/16th roadrunner again.
It's amazing to me how quick they can catch on to what you're doing. I changed baits multiple times when the bite would die off, and each time I was rewarded with more strikes. When pink and black quit working, I changed to electric chicken. When electric chicken died down, I went to monkey milk.
The monkey milk and chartreuse jig combo ended up attracting the most aggressive strikes and got me the biggest fish of the day. It was a very full female and I let her go to birth some new crappie into the lake.
Ultimately I ended up taking 6 home on the stringer and just finished filleting them. Fish tacos are on the menu tonight!
Crappie are truly an amazing fish to catch unlike any other. I have to give thanks to all the knowledge I've gotten here and elsewhere in the crappie-verse. I wouldn't be catching them without y'all!
