Purdy day for some fishin
I've been learning to fish for the past couple of years since moving back to Alabama and finally caught my first slab! Richard Gene's crappie fishing videos sparked the flame, but the initial learning curve and lack of success dissuaded me for awhile. So I took up targeting bass primarily after a trip with my good buddy ALBuzz on the Tennessee River last year. His recent run of absolutely destroying some crappie got me thinking about picking up the jigs again and I've been focusing on the slabs for the last month or so.
The weather has been prime this week for spring conditions and I couldn't wait for the weekend to beat the banks down at Lake Purdy. So I made a break for it after getting off the jobsite to get a couple of hours in before sunset.
Water conditions were very murky, about a foot of visibility. Slow rolled a pink and chartreuse crappie magnet on a 1/16th road runner and caught the big one on my first couple of casts. Bass were blowing up all around as well and I managed to get a hook into one inadvertently. Going to have to take my bass rod with me this weekend as well. Kept getting bit but I think my reaction and hook set for crappie need some time to develop. Got me a second crappie right before I left but I let it go to grow up a bit more.
Fish are coming up shallow in Birmingham and I hope y'all can get you a mess of em this weekend wherever you're at!
