I fished Cotaco today keeping a half limit and returning 20 or 25 larger Crappie and a dozen short fish. Good day on the water. All fish came between the bridge at Sharps Ford and the river, no fish caught about the bridge. The water was clear with visibility of about 24 inches at the mouth of Cotaco and the river. Cloudier back up stream but still with visibility of at least 12 inches. Th water was 52 degrees at the mouth and in the upper 40's above the bridge.
I stopped at Bass Pro Shops in Birmingham (Leeds) on the way home yesterday and picked up some Pink and Chartreuse tube jigs on a whim. Not sure why, sure didn't need any more tackle, but they looked "fishy". I put one on a 1/32oz jig head and caught Crappie, Gills and Bass everywhere I shook it today, LOL! Most fish came in about 6 feet of water but found some as shallow as three to four feet all off my 10-foot jig pole.
Lots of folks on the water, talked with several Crappie.com forum members today. One of the most beautiful November afternoons I can remember.
Good job DB, happy holidays

Nice talking to you today! Funny how i've met some of the nicest folks on Cotaco, hope to see you out there soon!

Good talking to you yesterday. They must have liked the new tube jig, it is a lot harder to stay on the tree tops in a boat than in a Kayak We did not catch another fish after we talked to you.
Great seeing you!
If wind and current are favorable, you can't beat a kayak for working laydowns. I chuckle sometimes when I see a big boat bounce off a tree, drop a big anchor or constantly get on the trolling motor trying to maintain their position and wonder why they don't catch many fish (especially if the water is shallow or warm during the summer). With a kayak it's gentle paddling to maintain your location of grab a tree branch with a free hand for a couple minutes. Small boats have their advantages sometimes.

Agreed. I'm going to try out my new boat on crappie for the first time tomorrow. I like that I can move long distances, and take my daughter or dad with me. But, I'm not sure I won't wish I was in my kayak tomorrow for the reasons you mentioned. Hard to beat a yak for backwater crappie. I still have mine, but I need to get some use out of this big boat or my wife might divorce me.

I used to have a boat, now I'm living proof that "once you go yak, you won't go back"
